It's most likely some kind of rattling. I have the same system on my 2005. I have some door speaker panel rattle on the front doors and the rear subwoofer rattle as well.

my salesperson told me it was speaker. i asked if it was a speaker and she just said yes with no further explanation LOL

The big center grill on top of the dashboard is for air ventilation and if you have the H/K sound system it also houses the center filler speaker.

The H/K system has one centerfill speaker in the dashboard as mentioned above, 1 X tweeter in each front door, 1 X mid-range in each front door, 1 X midrange in each rear door, 1 X tweeter in each rear door (the midrange has a tweeter placed in front of it in the same speaker enclosure)1 X subwoofer in the left side of the rear parcel shelf with 1 X surround sound speaker and 1 X surround filler speaker also in the right side of rear parcel shelf in the mesh covered area opposite the subwoofer. The subwoofers mesh cover has the H/K badge on it. There you have it 12 speakers!!! Mystery solved!!!

Dear friends in this mb forum website, my name is Gary and I am new in this forum site, I just want to get suggestion from friends like you, I don't know if I'm at the right discussion room, but because I found the topic as MB c-class, I thik this is the right place to ask for help, I am seriously deciding to purchase the 2006 C230, I have actually ordered it from the dealership and they told me it would take around 8 weeks to arrive from Germany to NJ. but my sales person told me it would be the 2007 year model, and if anything changes in the car and I don't like it, I am not oblige to purchase the car. However whenever I read reviews to compare the c230 and the Bmw 325i, it always seem that the 325i has the advantage. such as the engine is bigger and stronger, the body has just been change a year and a half ago, and i like the style too. and the c230 is going to change somewhat late next year. what I don't like about the 325i is the interior, I think the c230 still has a better looking interior. and the free maintenance of the Bmw.
I just like to ask you guys, of what are the reason you'll choose the C-230 over the 3 series. especially those who have friends who purchased the 325i, so that they can really compare and tell me the honest and unbias opinion. like if you had puchase this car and have regrets , and this and that.
OK guys, hope to hear some of your suggestion that will be a big help to me.

you should really have started a new thread on this topic. I passed twice on the bmw, didn't like it. Also nothing is free. The "free maintenance" is really added into the cost of the car and you just pay for it up front. I also don't think the engine if more powerful, I think it has a few more hp but it sure doens't feel like it.

Yes, the BMW is actually more expensive, if you look at the sticker price, and furthermore, it's more difficult to get the same discount on BMWs.

Also, depending on your insurance category, the Mercedes is also usually considerably cheaper to insure.

There is a speaker in that center grill if you have the H/K sound system. I know because I have a rattle that comes from that speaker when I listen to talk radio on Sirius... must be something to do with the higher pitch of the voices...it is only noticeable when playing in Logic 7 mode.

Also want to mention there are 3 speakers in the rear deck.. I popped the covers off and found 1 subwoofer on the driver's side, a small 3" speaker next to the subwoofer, and another small 3" speaker on the passenger's side.

Now, I think I have more speakers than 12. Goodness. I'm so confused.

I'm just not going to car anymore. The car has 12, no matter if I say it has more or less than 12. If it doesn't, then someone would've already sued the pants off Mercedes anyways.
