about time for new suspension!?

My c coupes almost up to 30,000 new york city miles,

I replaced my rear shocks abt 15,000 ago, and recently c230_05 has been talking to me abt Coilovers and its stuck in my head lol
The car is getting a little bumpy, and i was wondering if its about time sooon to change atleast all 4 springs and all 4 shocks!? I want to atleast get a H&R Cupkit, since im broke as hell recently...

I read somewhere that 30,000-35,000 is about time to change the shocks/springs

Might as well go for the TEIN Basic coilovers. I recently saw a special on them for $825 shipped anywhere in the USA from CarLAB Motorsports. They usually retail for $890 plus shipping, so that's probably your best bet.

I second that.

still, I'm surprised that you need to replace your shocks so often. I know city driving puts far greater demands on them, but still. 15k miles, that makes the car seem useless.

Does this mean that if I'm a good mix of city driving that I need to replace them every 30k miles?

I drive 90% city miles and here in NYC the roads are really tough, I was surprised my rear shocks went out aroun 15k. Recently I've been feeling my car has been a bit more "bumpy"

I was thinking maybe if I switch to an aftermarket more "sport type" brand and quality, it would last me longer?

If you're going to spend all that $ on suspension anyways, might as well get a set of coilovers. The aftermarket coilover options we have available are all quality. Not sure if they last longer (doubt they do), but they definitely look better!

I'm just surprised that anything can break in 15k miles. That seems a little weak to me, even if it is in city miles.

Try to get something that will last longer than 15k miles.

I wished that I could say my car was filled with at least two people all the time. Seriously, I should've gotten a two door. Since it's always only me in the car.

You on the other hand need the four door.

When you say "bumpy" do mean specifically that you feel the bumps more sharply? If so, this is usually not a sign that your shocks are worn. The function of the shock is to dampen up-and-down motion, and counteract the springs' tedency to oscillate, or continue extending and contracting in response to a force applied to it before coming to rest at its static height while bearing the load of the car. Worn shocks usually result in a bouncy ride rather than a stiff ride. How did you determine that your rear shocks went at 15k before? In that amount of time, about the only way they could have gone bad is if they were blown, in which case you would have seen evidence of a leak.

As for springs, there is almost no way that you've worn out coil springs in 30k miles. Your car seeming to ride stiffer could be the result of over inflated tires... or it could just be the little devil on your shoulder whispering that you need an upgraded suspension.

Regards,

e harmon

Oh, that makes much more sense.

I hope it's a leak. That way you can get it fixed under warranty.

I've noticed my car stiff… makes a very particular clunking noise in uneven pavement or small potholes (I guess big ones too but I haven’t had the chance or courage to try). Also I've noticed when I go slow and go over bumps I hear a different noise, something like dry-ish screeching, coming from the suspension... btw I check the tire pressure and looks fine...
