Squealing during start up?

When I start my 04 230 K, and put it in reverse it squeals like a *******! Went to dealership...told me I had "carbon build up on my intake valves." I was like..."are you kidding me?" I already had the problem fixed at the same dealer last year and they changed the "belt tensioner". So I went to pick up car today...still making noise. Anyone else have similar problems?

Tighten the tensioner more and spray the belts with WD-40, I'm not sure but it might work... I had the same problem in my 2001 e46.

dont use wd-40 on the bering it will be quiet for a week then your bering will fail and then your in deep trouble if the tensioner pully locks up. WD-40 will degrease any bering

I knew that about wd 40. They are changing the tensioner today. I just found it weird that they wouldn't check the source of the problem last time I broght it in. Thanks for the reply's everyone!

I would agree with frank here. Ive got a buddy who is a car nut here at work. He Had just replaced the bet in his car and it was either too moist or too dry. I think moist actually. Anyways, he bought a spray can of this stuff that helps try out the belt. Started up the car, sprayed some of that stuff on and the car has been silent since. I would recommend going to the local shucks/autozone/whatever and asking if they have a spray of somesort that will help you out. I have found my local schucks staff to be pretty knowledgable about these kind of little qwerks!

Good luck! hope the sound goes away.

Thanks John. I Haven't heard back from them yet. I can't believe they've had the car for a week and a half for a squeaky belt! Still no word yet either. I droped it off a week ago yesterday.

Ya know...come to think of it...it has been kinda humid down here in sunny florida lately. And the problem didnt come back until summer! Probably the belt...
