aux input
Hi all,
the problem: I cannot find the aux input from the glovebox
of my 01 C320 as seen in the picture. All I have is just an empty hole. I do have the COMMAND system but no CD changer.
the question: Does this aux input automatically come with the COMMAND equipped car in the first place or do I have to have this installed from aftermarket?
the culprit: I've talked to servicemen from So Cal MD dealers and they did not have a clue on this.
Pls help me solving this problem. I need to hook up my portable MDs, MP3s to this aux input
Thanks for time reading this.

sorry, can't really help you; but I have a question for you:
is the aux input the same thing as the fibre optic cable?? I really don't know.
If it isnt, what is the aux input.
Could I hook up my portable cd-player to the aux input through my line out of my player or something like that?????
Sorry; don't really know much about this.

thanks yukpo
I guess I will have to wait a while for the changer's price to go down, and then get one.

It's Working!
OK, while this IS a case of RTFM, you do have to read the *right* "FM" which in this case is the COMAND manual. I could be wrong, but if you don't have COMAND I don't believe the glove box input is connected to anything.
In the separate COMAND manual, it tells you to press the "SVC" button. From there, turn the thumbwheel until you come to "AUX." Hit enter. "Auxiliary Audio Source" will show up on the COMAND display. The jack shown in the photo above is a standard stereo-mini jack. I connected a Walkman and it sounded great.
I'm glad I figured this out, but now I'm bummed because I have to go spend $300 on an iPod!

Quality
Yes Yukpo--the quality is good. Essentially this is just a "line-in" to the system. The advantage is that it doesn't use an RF modulator--it's a direct line-in to the amp. I connected my credit-card sized FM radio I take on the train. It sounded great. Seriously, with a $299 iPod, you could have 1,000 songs in your car. True, you won't have steering wheel control, but it makes 6 CD's seem rather insignificant!

You need a stereo-mini male to stereo mini male. If your MP3 player has a "line out" vs. a "Headphone out" you'll want to use the line out. If you use the headphone out, make sure you don't have the volume on the player set too high. Good luck.
