rough idle check engine light on

As I got to work this morning I noticed that the car was idling roughly and the check engine light was on, so I shut off the car, gave it a couple of minutes and started it again. The idle is fine now but the check engine light is still on. What could cause this? I installed a K&N drop-in filter 7000 miles ago with no issues until now, can I reset the check engine light by myself if the idle becomes stable. Oh this morning, I filled up with the same gas at the same gas station too. Any helpful input is appreciated.

by the way the car is a 2005 c230ss with 19000 miles on it. service A done at 13000 miles.

same thing happened to me at around the same mileage except my experience was worse and the rough idle continued for a while. take it to the dealer, according to them, they reflashed my ECU and it was all good after that. I have a thread on this topic, I'll try to search for it later on, but if you want you can run the search.

good luck!

ARRRGGHH: It's BACK!!

S.O.B!!! The damn check engine light is on, same thing, the car drove fine until I parked it and the motor started to idle low, check engine light is on again, and the gas cap trick didn't work. If this keeps up, the car will be going soon, just **** after another. I'm still trying to sell the wheels I just brought and now this, damn it!!! sorry i just needed to vent.

My 03 C230 coupe did the same thing, engine light would come on, rough idle and then would eventually go away, and the check engine light would go off. Well it kept doing this like once every two weeks, finally took it to the dealer to check it out. Long story short, one of the pistons is bad and they need to send it to a machine shop. Luckily the car is under warranty at 27K miles...........

i had a local independent read me the error codes, there are 3:
1. Cylinder 1 is misfiring.
2. & 3. are the same and it says low fuel level.

The tank is full too and the independent shop said it's unlikely to be the fuel filter (w/c is $137 parts only). It's going in for warranty service on wednesday, i just hope it's nothing too disappointing.

it's a fuel issue, had to take the wifes car in for the same thing. Dealer fixed it in an afternoon, and no more problems.

did the dealer charge you? or was it a warranty work? I just don't want to pay $120/hour on dealer labor.

it was warrenty, my wifes car only has 13k miles. What they did is reset fuel adapation. Performed me 9.7 control module software update. Everything is fine now. I believe there's a bulletin on it.

a little update

well I dropped off the car at the delership yesterday afternoon and I just heard from my service advisor today, they're replacing one of the cylinder heads, that sounds like a couple of thousand worth of warranty work, i just hope problem doesn't start popping after this work.

btw, the dealer loaned me an 06 c230 and I wouldn't trade my m271 motor for it (no offense to 06 owners) the 06 is a great car, until you drove an 05, i thought the 05 was slow... well you get the point.

The torque delivery from M271 motor will give u an impression that the car is very powerful. But the new 6-cyl C230 is actually not a slow car...

Yeah, the 7G-tronic is almost perfect! I wonder why the AMG are not using it...
