I finally fixed my stereo...

So after all the research and pulling out the bose mic i realized that its all BS. If u have the bose system in your car just toss the stock headunit b/c it sucks and u'll end up killin yourself b/c the volume will skyrocket and get low whenever it wants to. I installed touchscreen eclipse GPS,MP3,DVD,Ipod and Sirius radio. I got all this for cheap b/c i bought it off of this guy i know. I also got another Alpine amp to power my bose speakers. The system sounds siiick right now i'm runnin 2 alpine amps, 1 JL 10inch W6V2, and a Eclipse Player thats worth over 2G's when it was new. Once i get a camera i'll take pics.

Wow, you did all that and didn't bother replacing the Bose speakers? I'd add that to the upgrade list. I upgraded my Bose speakes and found a significant imrpovement.

It's not the speakers that are bad, it's the HU. That's why many people got the european radio, the MB Audio 10 CD, sounds much better than the stock radio and you don't lose the steering wheel controls and mfd readout.

The headunit upgrade may be worthwhile (I upgraded both HU and speakers at the same time), but I think the speaker upgrade was more significant. Those Bose speakers are cardboard.

I don't know about the specifics of the Bose system, but if they had the same ideas as they did with the stock system, MB's idea of a crossover is a tweeter with a resistor on it. If you feel that the sound is coming from underneath you, and if the sound is blocked when you put your leg near the door, do the speaker swap. With a good set of speakers and a crossover box, the soundstage rises to the level of the tweeters, so you get a much more balanced sound, and you don't have to worry about where your leg or your passenger's leg is resting. It was one of the most annoying things about my car even after I did an HU swap. Then I did the speaker swap, and I was much happier.
