2006 C230 10,000 Miles

after car sits for 4hrs or overnight the first start makes a ticking noise for about 3-4 seconds then goes away for the rest of the day... unless it sits for 3hrs or more... going in for service on the 1st of aug. not sure if it is normal

update:tick tick tick on startup

well my 06 c230 has 10,000 miles on it and everymorning after startup it make a tick tick tick like a lifter noise or something for about 3 seconds... and then it goes away... the noise will not return unless it sits for 4 hrs or more... then it will do it again.

took it to the dealer, and for 34.95 they are going to do a carbon build-up treatment... so i said o.k. and that i didnt want it to turn into a fighting match with them where nothing is covered under warranty... but my rep told me it wouldnt. he couldnt gurantee that it would fix it, but he said it wold be the first step in trying to diagnose it. they have already admitted to hearing the noise once.. but said they didnt hear it again, which i think is strange, because if the car actually sat for 4hrs or longer it WILL tick...

anyway... my loaner also a 2006 c230 but with 1,000 miles does not make the noise that mine makes at all...

I merged your 2 threads. No reason to start another one for the continuation of a saga. It also helps the search feature.

thanks

well got the car back today. and my service advisor did the carbon/fuel injector cleaner as per MB TAC. btw he didnt charge me for it either... will post my findings in this thread later this week if i can find it.. i had to go and fill up again with 93 octane and use the car for a while for it to "take effect"

the ticking sound is the fuel vapor recovery valve located behind the left headlight. You can put your hand on it and feel teh ticks. Fuel injection cleaner will not fix it. It's suppose to make that noise. Newer cars from 2004.5 and later have some more foam added around the valve to reduce this noise.
