hottest day of the year and my A/C goes out.

It got to 99 here with heat index of 107. After lunch, got in, started down the road..cold air suddenly turn to very warm air. Played with it for about 20 mins no luck, then drove straight to the dealer. Where they can't do anything till Monday. Don't like the idea of it spending 3 nights at the dealer..

I've had problems (only consistent problem) with my AC completely shutting off (no air at all).

I've reported it about 4-5 times through the past 2.5 years I've owned the car, but it seems that whatever was done wasn't good enough.

Couldn't really guage because it's such an intermitent problem that I've gotten used to my "quick" fix. What I do is, turn off the air completely, wait for 30 seconds, turn the air back on full blast with AUTO on.

It usually takes about 1 minute for it to come back on and as soon as it does, I turn AUTO off and keep the AC on for as long as I can. What's tough is, with gas prices the way they are now (especially in L.A.), I try to use the AC as little as possible. With it being constantly hot in L.A. this summer, I have to use it more often than normal.

It's a whole routine I'm so used to, but I with all the times I've brought it up to my service advisors, none of them have seemed to figure out what to do with it.

Damn, that sucks....I've assume you've tried different dealers??? Yeah, I tried all different kidns of combinations of off on, but nothing worked. Hopefully, they won't have the probs you've had. If so, they are putting me in another vehicle.

You are lucky. When I bought my first MB, the first W201, literally, the first shipment from Germany to the U.S., a refridgerant line burst and they wanted me to wait 6 weeks in August for a replacement because they haven't stocked up on parts yet. I called the zone office and they got an aftermarket line in a few days. I told them what's the dif, it's not like the A/C unit is made by MB anyway.

damn I thought I was the only one having this issue, it only happened to me twice, so I never bothered, plus the quick fix did solve it (great minds think alike huh).

Since I have my Service A coming up, I'm gonna try and see if they'll swap it out with a digital climate unit...LOL...I know they'll say NO, but no harm in asking...hahaha.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
I have seen the Air Con simply turn off when running in the auto mode. I then noticed that the manual fan speed was set on zero. I moved it a couple of clicks, and shut off the Auto and AC switches. I then restarted in AC and Auto modes.

I had another thought, the high side pressure may be too high, and the system shuts down to save it from exploding. I now usually run in recirculate mode to take off the load from cooling heated outside air as it enters the car.

Now that is a thought...with it being so hot, right at lunch time..I could see that. I tried recirculate..but maybe by then it was too late. O well will see Monday what they say.

My color is discontinued. It'd be a loss for me to do that.

Update: So they got a new control unit in today, installed, no change. Still not blowing cold. Saying car is reporting no codes. So they are overnighting another unit for Wednesday and are going to change out the compressor. I'm starting not to like this situation.
