The C-Class is definitely a luxury car. The engineering alone that Mercedes puts into all of their cars should count, but since that is lost on people who have never driven/owned/cared about Mercedes I won't go into that. The other thing that make the C-Class a luxury car is the way everything works, the refinement, the ride/handling/safety. Many cars have the same or even more "features" for the same or less money, but they drive/feel/look/protect in the way a Mercedes does and they never will. A C350 or C280 can be a pretty expensive little car too when you start checking off the options, but they're quiet, precise on the road and track true, all the while giving that Mercedes-Benz ride. Yes they're luxury cars, the only luxury they really can't offer is "room" compared to say an E-Class.

I dont know but as I said to the rental agency agent at the counter when they offered me a new Opel for rent ......
" I dont know about the Opel, does anyone take it on the Autobahn ? "
I rented a Mercedes (luxury rental car) and took the gas pedal all the way to the floor as fast as it would go and lived to tell the story. That is the difference between a luxury car and all other cars.
When you are driving at Max speed and a guy hauling a caravan cuts you off you will be quite confident that your car is a luxury car.

An All MB's are luxury cars...different class of car altogether..By the way I noticed that the road noise in the back seat of a 3 series is terrible...it's much quieter in the c. I would also consider any bmw to be a luxury car as well for the record.
cmon - you know the g35 line is RWD

That's the only disappointing thing about the C-class is the lack of legroom in the backseat. your right, anyone of a decent height up front is not going to allow for any legroom in the backseat.
Thankfully we have the ML 350 for the family trips and group adventures, while the 230 is relegated to husband and wife only outings.

C class in an entry level luxury car. Real wood, RWD, from anemic to incredible engines.
Not sure how anyone can totally disregard it as a luxury car. It is, just a smaller one like the leaders in this class.

sdsilverm3...Sorry but the IS300 is plastic & cheap feeling. I don't think that should be considered luxury. C class is def entry level Luxury... But when I really think Luxury I think of Maybach, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes S-Class. SLR, Lambo, Ferrari = Exotic Luxury.

I just bought my wife a c230 sport. The ride on it alone should make it a luxury car & the name MB is automatically perceived as luxury in peoples' minds. I also bought a fully loaded 2007 Chevy Avalanche for myself, it cost $48K + TTL. Although it is very nice and costs alot more the my wifes c230, a Chevy is not considered luxury, a MB is.

MSN autos has an article out rating the top 10 popular luxury cars the C-class came in at #6. Here the blurb on the C and a link to the full article:
6. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz's entry-luxury sedan that was restyled for 2005 with a new body, headlights and taillights, grille, and wheels. For 2006 the C-Class gets a new generation of V6 engines including a 201-horsepower 2.5-liter V6 in the C230, a 228-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 in the C280, and a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 in the C350. The 362-horsepower 5.4-liter V8 in the C55 AMG continues unchanged. New active front head restraints are standard on the entire C-Class line.
