I normally keep my headlights on the automatic setting so that I don't have to bother remembering to turn my lights off/on as the sun rises/sets. Lately I've noticed that sometimes even in full afternoon sunlight I can see the reflection of my headlights on the rear bumper of other cars. At first I thought it was just the glare of the sun off my bi-xenons, but the other day I could clearly see in the reflection of a chrome bumper in front of me that my headlights were on. I tried turning the headlights to the off position, then back to auto and they lit right up as though it was dark outside. I could see if it was early evening and the sun was setting, but it was the middle of the afternoon with the sun shining bright overhead. Where is the sensor located and is it possible that it may have been dirty or there was something blocking the sensor? Your experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have noticed this too, really bugs me when they turn on for the 30 seconds the car idles in the garage. I have just resorted to using manually turning them on/off. My wife’s Touareg has no problems with auto headlights, they usually don’t come until dusk and don’t turn on in the garage, I think VW has a few minute/second delay on the lights for the garage.

Blake, have the sensor checked. It should be able to detect a lack of light, not too much light. The only time that I've noticed the sensor doing something like that would be when I come out of a dark garage. The auto lights will be on, but as I'm driving in the sun, they eventually shut off.
the sensitivity of the light sensor can be changed with stardiagnose...but not to the point where the lights come on in the middle of the day (unless they are programmed to do so in the IC as I have in my car for example)

greetingz,
Why am I not surprised that Steve will likely be able to help solve my problem? Looks like I found another coding mod to add to my MBenzNL wishlist.
