damm exhaust sensor!
Last week, my Check engine light came on, so i took it to my friends Dads mechanic shop and his machine scanned the car's computer, it read, Exhaust sensor 1. My car only has 60,000 miles on it and he said that my sensor is to new to go out, so, he resested the comp. As i was driving the car home the car was putting like crazy and couldnt get full power, the car dove a little "ruff" and my question was, how much is this sensor to fix? just the price of the sensor? and then a dealership price to fix?

Not too difficult to remove and replace. Buy the part from your dealer or online (I use Duval Motors - http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...siteid=213951), about $168). Make sure it's cool and spray lots of rust penetrant, let it soak in for a while. Removes like a spark plug but instead of a sparkplug socket you need a O2 sensor socket for a slot for the wires or you maybe able to use an open end wrench. You can try an aftermarket O2 sensor, save a few bucks, it's a Bosch 5 wire sensor.

I forget, but buellwinkle, didnt you tell me a while back that there are EPA laws that are in place that can/will replace the o2 sensor and/or the cat if the car has less than 80k miles?

That's because we like to abbreviate Oxygen Sensor to O2. Select Year (2003?), Make (Mercedes benz) and model (C230)> It goes to a screen full of menus and choices, ignore that and go to a box near the bottom on the left that says "Keyword or Part Number" and enter "oxygen sensor" and it will show you the prices for both. Make sure you give them the VIN on checkout so they can validate that for your since they are an MB dealer just in case MB has an upgraded replacement for it (one reason I like Duval, they are a real MB dealer, not some parts only place for hundreds of brands).
I don't know of any non-MB OEM replacements for the M271 motor, they do for the M111 motor. You can get a cheaper generic 5 wire Bosch O2 Sensor but it won't come with the proper connector, you'll have to do soldering, not something I would waste my time with.

help!!! i went to the dealership today to get my car fixed and they told me the part was not under warranty. How do i get them to replace it? They checked on their computer system and nothing came up. I had the service advisor ask the warranty lady and no luck there either.

Only certain emmissions related parts are covered in the state's mandated 80K mile warranty, mostly the ECU, not the sensors. Get the sensor, rust penetrant and an O2 sensor socket and enjoy...

I'm finding this from Duval at about 200 for the front one.
Rock Auto has the universal for about 80 and
the supposedly correct one for 122=130 w/ship.
Rock auto lists it as a 4 wire planar.
Universal is BOSCH Part # 15733
With connector
BOSCH Part # 16272
Anyone know is these correct?

Not worth $120 to solder a few wires?

You can get the universal for around $35 autopartswarehouse. The factory replacement is around $105 front and $135 rear through them.

The ones at the top of the list are the old school non-heated ones, with one and two wires, which is definately not correct.
Hmmmm....car was running good tonight, but a little rumble coming from the engine, doesn't seem to register as a misfire so perhaps is unburned fuel backfiring?
I put some STP octane booster/ cleaner in...

screw bosch
www.ngksparkplug.com
that will give you the exact NGK part number for an OE replacement...
then find some place online (napa or clubplug) to order it.
With these wideband sensors you need the sensor with it's plug, as the calibration for the sensor may be in the plug itself (a hidden laser trimmed resistor) ... depends on the exact sensor ... so if you get one without a plug that means it's not calibrated which means it's to be used on cars (or wide band controllers) that perform a free air calibration on startup
I don't have enough benz info to tell you if it is a precalibrated sensor or not, but i wouldn't go making my own harness...

Nuk,
The site listed....I think you meant http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/
No O2 sensor listed for 2002 C230....
I googled not finding it..
Please enlighten me...
EDIT: Ok, well I searched some more, I came up with this cool
cross reference chart.
http://home.att.net/~ngksparkplugs/wsb/NTK_OEM_Cross_Reference_Rev1.pdf
From what I can see, the Bosch pn is 16272 for upstream, and there is no
NTK equiv.
But there is for the M271. NTK PN- 24321
and it's $152 + at clubplug.net
Bosch can be had for 120 (for M111).
