New C320 Coupe (215bhp?)
Yep, that's not a typo - I'm trying to find out about the supposed C320 coupe coming very early next year. Yes, the 3.2l V6 in the CL203 chassis.
Anyone know anything about it?

Sorry, I think it's a rumor - or wishful thinking .
My impression is that MB has decided that the Coupe is only going to be powered by the new M271 four-cylinder motors and the diesel. MB could easily squeeze more power out of the M271's if neccessary, while maintaining the fuel mileage of a four cylinder motor.
I also don't think there will ever be a dealer-available AMG C32 Coupe either. Although, I could see an AMG C27 diesel Coupe as this would be a very good way for MB/AMG to market a hot-rodded diesel.
Cheers, BT

That is not a good thing
This sounds like it would intrude into the new CLK market,, would not make much sense from Mercedes standpoint, especially with a price probably as much as CLK!

According to Autoweek, not only is it verified that the car will be built, you can special order an AMG option in Europe RIGHT NOW! It may not be available in the US until 2004, but if you search this forum, you'll find photo's and build specs.

I have it on good authority...
I've heard that production begins for the US market at the end of this year and they'll be available in the first few months of next year.
I think I'll put my order in now.

Uhmm... 215HP on 3.2 engine?
Is this a justification to skip the C230? To buy us a mere 15 ponies extra? Sure it's may be a bit smoother on a 6 and a few more dodats but I guess it would also add 10 - 20K to the MSRP?
:o Include me out...
C-C230 is the one
Peace

well, actually, the hp difference is 215-189= 26hp and that is not an insignificant number.
i would hazard a swag of $32k base price for a c320 sportcoupe. and it would be a nice competitor to the bmw 330ci which mb is lacking. the clk320 starts off at $42k.
of course, much of this is just conjecture.

If they could keep the price down, a C320 Hatchback 6 Speed would be a very interesting car, indeed.

A C320 coupe here in Aust. will be very welcome as we only get the C200K & C180 version of the coupe, not the 230 even though we do get the CLK230 & the SLK230. Go figure......

Phill, we don't get the CLK230 in the USA. We are very limited on what options we can get and which versions we are allowed to have.
I guess Mercedes-Benz doesn't think the American's are smart enough to deal with all those extra options and engine versions, lol .

And I agree with trench, the M271(just like the M111) is loafing in terms of output...there's more in there to be sure. I'd like to see the coupe go on a diet, and get the car below 3000lbs. I don't know if that compromise safety, but the car is pretty fat at 3300lbs, although it doesn't feel like it when you drive it.

C230 Sports Coupe
I KNOW for the 6-7 grand increase in price i can make my C230 faster than a C320 Coupe assuming it will only have 25 more hp . Pulley, ECU, exhaust etc. I wonder if you can put underdrive pullies on the car as well as a crank pulley?

It's not a rumor - everything that I hear is that it's coming at perhaps only half the price premium that was mentioned above. The C-coupe cabriolet will not make it though. Anyway, it doesn't matter - just wait until the new year.

Here's the link to the MBSPY article on the C sportcoupe convertible. It was an idea by Karmann (who builds a lot of cars for MB) and was reportedly cancelled by MB a long time ago.

Hope it helps.

S210 E320 4MATIC
I pulled this information from Mercedes-Benz.ca and it is from the SLK.
Both cars are manuals.
SLK230 Kompressor - $55,100 CAD
HP - 190/5,300
TQ - 200/2,500-4,800
0-100 km/h - 7.1
SLK320 - $61, 050 CAD
HP - 215/5,700
TQ - 229/3,000-4,600
0-100 km/h - 6.8
Increase of 25 hp and 29 ftlbs. Plus it will allow for a 320 manual and there will be extra goodies thrown in (instead of being options) because of the 320. Difference in price of $5,950 CAD ($3,800 USD).
Sounds great to me. Definately a step in the right direction for MB.
