OOPS!
SORRY! - just realized mine was built in March 2005, not 2004.
Having said that, I haven't seen any posts re: buying aftermarket double-DIN units. Is this because the ~$500 units you can find online are of inferior quality compared to the stock unit?
My VIN ends A789942, so it looks like it was made in Sindelfingen. Does that help identify the audio manufacturer and specs?

are you sure you connected to the right connector? On my 07, the connector was located near the middle of the front seat vs where the pillar was. And it was hidden in the bottom of some other wires.
if so, then it could be the wire harness or the extension that you are using.
