I would like to keep the look of the car as stock as possible. That is why if I cannot get the COMAND I want to get a small navigation to hide either to the left of the steering wheel, in the the ashtray, or somewhere else. I will have to look into the Euro COMAND. Sadly MBenzNL is very pricey.

I was looking on EBAY, and this guy says his Euro COMAND is new, but I feel a bit hesitant. Anyone have any input on this unit. COMAND LINK

The system you mentioned will that fit 2004 C230 in the small empty space under the radio.

Yes. it would look really nice. technically it would replace your radio
the only reason i wont get it is because i have the very large radio and i would need a dash kit.

Well I do not want to replace my stock radio I want to fit it under the radio . In my 04 there is a huge sunglasses or small note pad space right under the stock radio and above the temp gauages avic-n2

There is no reason to keep the stock radio, the Pioneer is better. I guess you can do it, but I dont suggest it. I had my ML done and it had the same thing.

Why even get that, I put MB U.S. Comand navigation in my 2004.5 for $900, takes about an hour. It's integrated into the stereo (key because you want the radio to mute part way whilst it talks), can see the directions on my mfd in the instrument cluster, I get AUX in for my iPod. All around a good deal and it adds to resale value.

I am also interested in a navigation system for my 2006 c230 benz.

I dont know the comand system is a bit pricey at 3 grand here...

but I heard alot of good things on GARMIN they are small and easy to use portable systems....I might get one of those since you can bring them in either car you use all you have to do is get a bigg sd card and it saves more maps and then just update it every chance you get.

you can get them for 349 or 450.

it also talks and is touch screen and easy to use.

here is the picture and stats.

There is also the Clarion NICE. Built in hard drive stores map and mp3 and video files. Fully portable. My co worker picked one up for $800 on ebay and I think its worth the money. One draw back is it plays music thru FM transmitted signal.

My $0.02 is get a head unit, you can probably find some brand new units on Ebay for around $800 to $1000. Just a little more but you get a lot more than those small portables.

I dont want an aftermarket unit because I like the steering wheel controls and I paid for the iPod integration from Mercedes. I think that the Garmin NUVI or C340 is the way to go unless I can get my hands on a COMAND for a reasonable price.

There's plenty on ebay, here's just one and it's the covetted Euro version (love the british accent and AUX holds the sounds settings unlike the U.S. Version) -

Make sure you get the antenna and C1/C2 connectors so you can install it.

Here's the 2006 version, never said it was $900 but it's available for a lot less than $3,000 -

I looked at that auction for the 2006 one before and I just need to know how much the antennas or other parts that I need are.

MBNY-
I see that you bought the c330 and not the 340. Is there a reason? Do you notice the missing features?

WOW! Buy it now for $960!!! It is a simple plug out the old unit and plug in the new one? Is this something a regular person could install?

i actually didn't know there was a 340. all i kept coming across when i was searching for navi at the time was the 320 and 330 so i went with the better one. honestly, i don't know what feature the 340 has that your referring too, but the 330 does everything i need it to do. i keep the adaptor in the trunk and the unit in my glovebox. if i need it, just pull it out and plug it in. i don't use it very often, but for when i need it, it's perfect. what's the upgrade with the 340?

The only difference is that the 340 has a text to speech option that says "turn right on main st" instard of "turn right in 500 feet." Otherwise you are pleased with the device? Will it look wierd/too big if i put it to the left of the steering wheel, or is there any way to make it look good near the ashtray? thanks.

Pioneer has the AVIC-N2 for a 1 din install, since the w203s take 2 din space, maybe u should check out the AVIC-D2

Not sure if this is your first navigation system or not, but they are not 100% accurate. If two roads are parallel and without a major division, the navigation system might not always know which your on. Once you make a turn or something, it should correct itself.

The speed sensor will only help when the turns come up. You should actually have a 1-2 second delay (the turn will come up 2 seconds before the navi will know) and that's because of the relay from the car to the sat and back to the car.

Ok, then you certainly have a problem. It shouldn't be the speed sensor because I haven't used one in my last 3 navi systems. Now, the reverse wire I think is only for a backup cam, so that shouldn't do anything.

I would first check the GPS module itself. Do you have a good line-of sight? Is something near it that's making the signal change?

Also, you could try ejecting the navi disc when it shows that your off-course and putting it back in. Sometimes this forces the GPS to focus the point on your location a bit better.

Finally, if you can't figure it out, call Pioneer Tech Support: 800-421-1404

They should walk you through it until you figure out the issue.

Good luck,
Erik

Erik

I was thinking about getting a Pioneer navi until the issue of the reverse and the speed sensor came up, then I got lazy.

But you say you didn't bother with either of those, and it worked well for you? Can you elaborate? If it's accurate enough, I may just go for it.

Thanks.
