i waxed my wheels yesterday, with turtle wax. lol figured if pledge worked than car wax would probably work also, my wheels are really smooth now thats for sure, havent checked them for dust yet i was running late this morning.

Results (for what it's worth)

Pledge/Endust-seems to reduce build up of pad dust on wheels and accumulation hoses off easily.

Coat of wax on wheels has about same result although dust accumulation is a bit more than with the Pledge/Endust.

Wax coat lasts longer, but requires more effort to apply-obvious.

Wheel coating is probably a different composition than water based body color coat-has to last in a more severe enviornment.

after waxing the wheels, and driving two days dust build up was the same, however they where much easier to clean when i washed my car last night at 1am.

Testing on 2 different wheels is actually a very poor test. The Electronic brake distribution DOES work and it will send more power to certain wheels depending on the situation, etc. So the test should have been conducted on the same rim, jmo.

just got my car last night and drove only about 30 miles and brake dust is visible so soon....i am not willing to try pledge but do you think a regular wax(turtle wax, meguiars etc) will work? i dont mind taking a car wash once a week but once a day...cmon

I replaced the brake pads with the EBC green pads from Tirerack and the brake
dust is virtually next to nothing (when compared to the OEM pads).

No one has really metioned this, but when I had my old 190E 2.6 (1987), it had accumulated a lot of brake dust on the rims. I ended up getting brake covers put on the wheels and noticed an improvement (got them from the dealer). Do they still make brake covers, and if so any opinions of them. My 2004 C320 does seem to attract a lot of brake dust after driving it for a bit, and I was considering looking into this.

According to Viper's MSDS listing for lemon Pledge, it does contain a parafin wax and some simple hydrocarbons such as propane and butane. so it may provide a thin film coating that minimizes the bonding of the brake dust to the coated wheel. As for static, the dust coming off a metalic surface due to friction may become magnetized and because the wheels are spinning they create a vortex that sprays the dust onto the wheel surface. It is the centrifugal forces that keep the dust smeared on the wheel surface and over time builds up. Just a hypothesis, any engineers out there?

I have "opted" the "easier" way to just never, EVER use my breaks

(yest ANOTHER reason why I don't drive my car as much... lol the break dust!)

Waxing the rims seems like the best, longest lasting and safest bet but it takes a while and washes off a little each time after each wash, so I use Eagle One Wax as u Dry on the whole car including the rims after EVERY wash. My car now always has a fresh coat of wax as does the rims and its soo easy to use. This is NOT a substitute for a cleaner/wax or the occassional claying but perfect in-between. The car always has that silky smooth to the touch feel after every wash. It also saves an extra step or two over detail sprays cause you use it while the car is still wet, its also thicker.

My car is black and I'm in S FL, last week I got the "mother of all bird bombs" on my hood, the bomb must have been from a freakin Teradactle..it was hudge! After 12 hrs on my hot hood there was 0, nada, NO clear coat damage!

I wish the company did not misrepresent this product as a substitute for regular waxing/cleaning...but use it as I do and you'll be very very happy.
