Is it safe?

Hi all,

I have recently removed the two plastic intake tubes on my M112

is it safe to drive the car without the two tubes?

reason why I removed it is because it gives my remus a throatier growl and the engine this intake noise.

thanks in advan-ced

i guess it will be safe, but youu will lose power. your motor is just sucking in a lot of hot air from the engine bay

is SOLD
it should be fine to drive around since the air filters will stop any major debris getting into the engine. i would replace it with nicer looking piping.

Well, I guess the emgineers at MB put them there for no apparent reason. As for the sound, there shouldn't be any sound difference since the tubes are straight through and dont have any sound dampening in them , but whatever!

well, try it. (if you do have the m112) there is a sound diff. especially with a aftermarket exhaust.

I once thought about painting these pipes with engine paint. but ehh...

I'm currently working on a project, rather...a cold air intake. in my "intake theory" thread

Are the tubes that connected to the front of the car(the openings of the ram air that are connected to the radiator area of the car) straight or are they curved like mine. I would like to try and make my car have a real ram air effect without any turns. I would switch it from the factory left side, to the right side so it flows directly into the airbox, still keeping the cloth tube to collect any water that might get sucked up.

See Garage
Guys, the V6 models have dual tubes running straight forward, one intake (and one filter) per side. The I4 models have the single, crossover tube to the passenger side intake.

So when you say that the tubes run straight foward, do you think it is inter changable with the I4 set up. Since the I4 crosses over to the drive side, the ram air tube(part that is mounted on radiator support) has a bend toward the drive side so it can all met up andconnect to the air box. I am just looking for the ram inlet that is straight not like mine that is bent to the right.

Did you notice any change to the responsiveness at all, after doing this? I'm assuming you haven't had any problems with it to this point.

I slapped those two tubes back on, on the way home.

there seems to be a "slow" low rpm throttle response with those 2 tubes off, but higer rpms, like 3500+ car picks up faster...but again. not a HUGE diff. just huge diff in sound!

i'm again, waiting for my cold air to arrive, by friday FEDEX promises.

funny thing is that, the vendor, packed my package, but did not send it out! so extra week hold

I just was wondering about this insert in the radiator support. If its straight then its good. If it doesnt fit in my radiator support opening then its no good.

Its just a piece of plastic that pops out. I removed it awhile ago so I can get cold air in the enigne compartment.

But even if you took that out and more air is getting into the engine bay, it doesn't have any way of going into the intake because of how the piping is set up, so I can't really see any benefits from removing that piece.

I know the purpose was to just get more air flowing into the engine bay to make the engine bay breath and cool down better, if any.
