Aftermarket Satellite

Just wondering for you peeps with aftermarket XM or Sirious where you ended up putting your receivers. Since most receivers are black, did you hide them or actually put it on your trunk.

When I had sat radio I put the entire unit in the ashtray like the XM Roady, not seperate receiver, the display is the radio and it's tiny. I have some pics on my website in the gallery.

i was talking more along the lines of the puck receiver not the actual unit. The receiver is usually placed on the trunk. I have a 2006 mercedes and i think they made the ashtray different than the 2001-2005

Yeah, I can see why Buell thought that - I didn't know what you meant in your first post, either.

The shop that did my install did something I would have never thought of, and I think it came out great.

In case you can't tell, it's on the inside, right at the bottom of the glass on the hatch. Works great, doesn't move, and no paranoia about having it mounted outside.

I put the antenna (what you call receiver) inbetween the dash pad and the high point on the instrument cluster so it wasn't visible. They are so small now that they are not really that notcible, specially if you have the black interior, some people put them on top of the dash where it meets the windshield, some put it on the rear package shelf where it meets the rear window. MB puts it in the middle of the trunk and is painted to match and it's probably the best place to put it next to the middle of the roof for reception but it looks ugly there, like a pimple on your car.

I have the Sirius XACT (similar to the new "Sirius One". It fits right into the extra dash space below my radio. As for the antenna receiver, it picks up fine just sitting up on my dashboard. Since the center of the dash has a metal grill, the magnet on the antenna sticks right to it.
As a side note, if your getting a sirius radio, get it in the stores quick and ask the sales rep if they are the old ones or new ones. Here's the deal: The FCC just came down on Sirius and XM for having to powerful FM modulators. ALL new radios have weak modulators and they really suck. If you get one of the newer receivers expect to have static unless you actually wire it into the antenna of the cars radio.
