Unhappy Warnings on computer display

I don't know if this happened to anyone of you. I was driving from VA to North Carolina and suddenly I've got 2 malfunction messages at the same time. One was saying that something was wrong with the BAS system and the other was related to the ESP system. I inmediatly checked the brakes and at least they worked.
After I stopped the car and re-started it the messages were gone but on my way back and after 150 miles of driving I've got them again. This morning they were gone. It's like they come and go all the time.
Does anyone know what this mean ?? I'll go this afternoon to my dealership to check the car, but it's something weird (specially after driving it only 4,500 miles!!!)

I have had the same thing happen 5 times now in the last two weeks. I called the dealer and they told me not to worry since the message was gone after restart. But, I am going to take it in anyway to have them check it out.

'01 CLK 55
...My CLK 55 displayed three malfunctions ( ABS, BAS, ESP) while I was returning from a long distance trip. I pulled over, turned off the ignition, restarted and the warnings disappeared. I took it into the dealer and a faulty switch was replaced. I was told that this switch is a common cause for the false malfunction displays. I was also told that I could expect the warnings to return intermittantly if it wasn't replaced.

I had the same thing. It took a few rounds of trips to the dealer. It was some faulty sensors (not sure which). The fault doenst make car unsafe to drive, they claimed.

I had the ESP and fuel malfunctions. They replaced the sensors but I still get the fuel malfunction. I am taking it to a new service centre, at Belmont Ca.

They provide the trusty MB Loaners.

well...

... it seems to be something usual. Thanks for the answers and I'll see if the dealer replace the "magical" sensor for me.

ESP and BAS malfunction

Hi,

What you described in your message is exactly what I experienced numerous times on my previous 2002 C240 after just 2-3 months of ownership. So after several trips to the dealership and a few replacement chips and sensors later my service manager acknowledged that they had faced the same
problem in other C-classes and they were unable to pinpoint the
cause of the problem.
Also monitor the RPM indicator very closely whenever you encounter the problem you will find that your car rev's up considerably more than it should under normal conditions and I guess that is because the engine is
operating at only 70% of its normal effeciency with an ESP malfunction as mentioned in the C-class Manual.
Well in my case i was lucky that MB replaced my car with another 2002 with very little expense to me. I really thank Mercedes Benz for their fine customer service and can guaranty that I am a customer for life.
My advise to you is dont live with the problem. Talk to your service manager or contact Mercedes Benz North America, if they are not able to rectify this issue. I think it is a a manufacturing defect in a few C-classes that they need to recall. Also we spend our good hard earned money on these fine cars because we
expect them to be trouble free. So Don't settle for less.

Good Luck,

I just went to the dealer and they already knew about the problem. I left the car this morning and I've got an Enterprise car (without charge) as a loaner ?!?!?!? I was hoping to get another MB, but they're giving those pieces of sh**t !!!! Is this normal or it's because this dealership is new??? Any suggestions for a GOOD dealership in the VA/DC area ???
I bought my car from MB of Alexandria but I'm considering to move to another service center with MB loaners....

The same thing just happened to me today. I've got about 4,000 miles on my ride. I was just driving and next thing I knew my display just lit up with 2 faults: BAS malfunction and ESP malfunction. Got some answers from this board. thanks. I'm taking my car in on monday.
