C230K oil consumption & tranny

Went in and had the oil consumption test done today, and it used .34 qts in 1000 miles. So that is 1 qt per 3000 miles. They said that was completely normal, but it seems kind of high to me. Anyone else keep track of their oil consumption or had any problems with it?

I also drove a '03 6-sp to compare with mine since I have always hated the 1st to 2nd shift. All I can say is that the '03 felt perfect and tight, and didn't have the clunk. So I made the mechanic and shop foreman drive both, and they both agreed that they felt very different, but they said that they thought mine felt better than the new car. Unbelievable. Idiots. The service writer said to just call the 800# and complain and they will reopen the case with the factory rep. I just don't have time for this car anymore.

BTW, anyone looking for a '02 model-this dealer has several. All automatics, but with $2000-3000 discounts posted on the windshields.

I think a quart/3000 miles sounds a little high. Probably it's within the tolerances, but on the upper "half".

My engine consumes no oil at all. Havn't had to top it up one single time in 18000 kms. Have done oil-checks on a regular basis both with the MFD, and using the oil-stick...

What distance does your car have on the odo? Oil consumtion may drop as the engine is thorougly broken in.

Keep us updated on this one please!

Damn! I feel so vindicated! I drive 150 miles per day, and I seem to have to add a quart or so at least once a month. The service dept. told me the same thing, "perfectly normal."

I don't buy it! Why does this car drink sooooooo much oil?

Just hit 30,000 miles, and it drinks oil like I drink beer!

Cut down a bit on your beer consumption and maybe your car will follow your example

If my memory is not way off, I think I recall a TSB regarding high oil consumption. Try searching the Tech Talk forum and see if there is any kind suggested remedy.

I have the car for almost 5000 miles. Never had to add extra oil. I checked the oil level with the dipstick after every 1000 miles. No oil consumption. Actually I will attempt my first oil change this weekend. I bought an electric pump to remove the burned oil. I’ll take pictures and post them.

Can anybody give me a good advice how to smoothly shift from 1st to 2 nd. I really have to concentrate to make a smooth shift. The easiest seems to rev the engine around 3000 rpm and then slowly release the cluck while pressing the accelerator. It’s no good if I shift at 4000 rpm and did not press the accelerator hard enough. Also sometimes I get the “clunk” that speedfrk mentioned.

Thanks

when I took mine in for the Service A, i looked at the dipstick and it had just used a little bit. I am at 16000 miles now and I added half a quart. No problems here.

Try shifting at a lower RPM. Under normal (light) accelerataion I usually 1-2 shift lower than 3000 RPM. All other gears: 3000+. Also, I only use 1st gear to start off from a dead stop or slight roll on level ground. 2nd can handle 3-5MPH starts on level ground (my method used mostly in traffic).

That's the method I've been using all the time. And the oil consumption all the sticks I've driven consumes almost nothing.
My coupe has 11K miles now and it's only 1/4 qrt low.

My car has 7500 miles on it now. It actually is using way less oil than when it was new. I had to put in 2 qts at about 3600 miles, so it is using half of what it was.

On the shifting problem- If I rev it to 5000 it shifts perfect. If I double clutch it, it shifts perfect. If I shift it very slow-almost pause between 1st and 2nd, it usually shifts OK. But if I just shift it normally, it usually clunks, and sometimes has a slight grind. Drives me crazy. Actually, the fact that the mechanics and shop foreman think it is OK is what really drives me crazy!

I just checked my oil, and it's fine. I did go through about 4 quarts before my Service A, so I'm pretty happy that it looks like it's normal now (3k since A).

When I whined about my oil consumption, they said that anything less than a qt per 1k is "normal".

I see the problem. You are releasing the "cluck". The cluck should never be released. It might void the warranty.:p

I am kidding you because I once post that my car made a clucking sound when shifting from first to second, when i meant the famous clunking sound

So do you have a good advice to avoid the "cluck"?
