Drew, IIRC, the Mobil 1 5W-40 meets 229.51 standards - this is appropriate for DIESEL Benz cars. 229.5 is the appropriate one for your car and they aren't cross compatible. Make them use the 0W-40 Mobil 1 or another that meets that standard.

I'll ask next time I'm in... Both my dealership in Jacksonville and my indy in Gainesville used 5w40 Mobile1. It never affected my CLK (which I just ckecked up on) so I'm not too worried.

I think dealers do this just to avoid having to have two bulk oils. There has to be a reason that 5W-40 doesn't meet the 229.5 requirements.

I'll definitely talk to them about it next time I'm in (which will be a while). All I need right now are front brakes and rear tires.

sorry i didnt have time to read all the replies, but i jsut wanted to share, i had that problem about 2 months ago, dealer replaced the sensor.
The last couple weeks, problem came up again so they just replaced it again, all under warranty.
Its a very common problem, but until recently they would just keep replacing the oil level sensor, now they have an actual updated part
