Question Service Manual

Does anyone know if there are any factory service manuals, or something nearly as complete for the c230? I would really like to get one, but can't find any.

As a general rule, Mercedes does not make Service CD's available for a new model for a period of 4 years.

You should talk to MBUSA on their 1-800 number, ask for technical publications.

Because of the laws in the USA, MB must make the information available to anyone - this is not the same in the Europe - so you can buy the documentation for many models in paper form, or you can buy the WIS service CDs for a few thousand $ ... which gives you the full tech info on all the cars !

Their last price list was from April 2000, so you may have to push them to find prices etc for newer cars ..

I bought my electrical service manuals for my SL when I was visiting USA because they arent available in Europe, MBUSA delivered them to the hotel I was staying in. - They are not cheap !!!

Richard, not so on the manuals.

Turns out the only info that has to be made available is the emmsions information. And that can be had free of charge by calling MBUSA with specifics. As far as repair manuals go, As long the manufacturer offers a warranty on the vehicle in the States, they do not have to make available any service information until the majority of most of the vehicles for that particular model year would be reasonably out of warranty. That is the reason for particular attention to the surveys and your current mileage per year. And that is calculated on a nationwide basis, not a specific region or State. Really stinks, however the good news at least after the 4yr/50k miles It will be made available. At least we do not have Jaguars. They fall under another clause over here, because they did not bring in certain amounts of specific models, and therefore fall under a clause of not having to make anything available for the consumer other than emissions (ie: 94-96 Jaguar XJS).

Sorry to see the changes in manual availability. When I got my last MB, a 1985 300TD, you could order the manuals right away. I got a complete set and they were quite valuable over the 12 years that I owned the car. When I sold it, I held onto the manuals. Just recently, I sold the set on ebay for $240, about what I paid for them.

Guess I'll have to wait to get the 230 set.

Official Mercedes manuals are not even paper form these days, All the service manuals are contained on a CD.

Hi

- Here is a link to the list of manuals (from april 2001) that they supply - it only seems to have the ETM (electrical trouble shooting manual) for the latest models

http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/mbusa.htm

Here is a link to the page that links to that with lots of interesting info !

http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/manuals.htm

When I spoke to MBUSA in September, they claimed april 2001 was the newest list

NB, at the end of the list is the Workshop Info. System CDs that contain fullest info for all models (i.e what they use in the workshop) - the "special hardware required" meants Pentium PC with Windows NT and an ethernet card, and a dongle.
- This is what Adam refers in his last post, Its 5 CDs in total ..
