Windshield wiper fluid

Not to be a cheapskate, but I rather just buy my own windshield/headlamp washer fluid refills and do it myself instead of getting charged $8 from my dealership everytime I go in for an oil change. I read in the manual that there is some special kind of "water/fluid" mixture ratio MB uses, but come on, is that really necessary?

Is there any recommendations for brands of washer fluids I should get, or is wiper fluid just wiper fluid, and any brand will work with our cars?

Thanks!

I've tried the good stuff and the cheap stuff. The best one I've found is called "Rain-X Plus De-Icer Premium Washer Fluid". It contains Rain-X Polymer Additive with freeze protection to -40C. Its made in Canada and is distributed by Quaker State. It is yellow for winter and a summer version is pink. It ain't cheap but a little goes a long way.
Aside from the obvious winter use, I use this stuff year round. It is incredibly streak free. I wouldn't even think about using anything else.
I used to use the Rain-X wipe-on product but the washer fluid is better and always available.

The dealer charges you on that? I've had my warning light come on a couple times since I've had the car, stopped by the dealership on the way to work and the SA would tell me to just wait a couple minutes while they go grab the bottle. They'd come out and refill for me. So weird how different dealerships are about stuff like this.

This Wurth Blitz Washer Additive is the best. It is very similar to the MB product. It smells nice too.

I buy mine from Mesa Performance in Costa Mesa, CA.

As far as I know, MB uses the same blue stuff everyone has, but they use additives that do make it work better. They have a "SummerFit" additive that helps remove bugs, and a "WinterFit" additive that lowers the freezing point I believe. They are both available from the dealer parts dept. The Summerfit came in a 40mL bottle ($1ish?) that you add to a full washer fluid container. The WinterFit came in a 1L bottle ($8ish?), and I use a leftover SummerFit bottle to measure out the same amount. I just fill up the reservoir with regular blue stuff, then add 40mL of whichever additive seems appropriate.

I use different fluid products from Wal-mart.

Blue fluid- usually the cheapest, but I think they work fine
Orange fluid- Rain-x stuff with de-icer, works beter
Green fluid- Bugs off, probably the best for Summer..but I havn't tried it for winter

I usually don't worry about winter additives since our car comes with heated washer nazzles.
