Grrr! £330 ($500) for a 2 inch scratch!

Some 'low life' decided to scratch my 6 week old coupe last weekend. It is deep enough to feel with you finger nail, but only 2 inches long on the rear quarter panel.

Dealer bodyshop said it will need the whole quarter panel and door sprayed.

I just got the estimate 330 UK pounds (around 500 USD).

So, do I get this done, only for some other 'low life' to be jealous and scratch again in a few weeks time!!!

Ouch! I can feel your rage! Doesn't some people just deserve to die a very slow and painful death?

Isn't there any kind of insurance that covers for this type of damages?

Be happy, I am in a similar situtaion (2 inch scratch, deeper than yours above rear fender lip, looks like an SUV or something scraped it) and my estimate is $1500 for a quarter panel job. I was going to pay for it myself if it was below $500 since my deductable is $300 but now I'm claiming it.

Good luck.

my car was keyed from the passenger door to the rear quarter panel when it was 3 weeks old. the scratch was deep down to the metal and the repair was $900.

Same here. One week old coupe. Some assh0lio decided that my hood needed decorating... 3" gash just in front of the emblem. Fortunately up front so I don't look at it too much.

I just got my langka and will be getting touch up paint. You may want to try this route too - first.

The thing is, if you're going to go and get it painted for $500, why not try the $30 solution first. If you don't like it - no biggie you're getting a whole paint job anyhow.

Scan this forum for some tips on touch up - there was a great link on painting chips (but I can't recall where) - sorry.

Ouch!

Be happy you don't live in Japan. My office mate tells me it is popular to use sandpaper rather than keying cars!

It would be good if one day someone invents an miniature in-car surveillance camera that has a birds eye. It might not prevent your car getting scratched but you would sure increase your chances of finding the ***** and keying his eyeballs out!
