2005 C230K Sedan 6MT vs. 2006+? VW Jetta 2.0T
This morning I’m driving to work, and in my rearview I see this guy messing around in a new Jetta – weaving in and out of local traffic, so I figure why not show him some manners?
Now lemme start off by saying I know my car is no speed demon, but for the most part against most econ-boxes it can hold its own. I navigate my way through traffic and end up lining up next to him at a light. Unfortunately this is not a straight away. It’s a two lane traffic light that makes a sharp left into a nice long straight away, which then splits into the highway. You can easily get up to 80+ before hitting the onramp splits.
I have a disadvantage lined up on the right, where the Jetta has the inside track on the left. Light turns green and I open up, great reflexes off the line and I’m cutting the corner as best I can without getting into his lane, but careful not to take it wide and further my disadvantage. Already blow threw first gear. I take the turn a little too sharp / fast and the rear starts to fish out in second @ 4 grand, esp kicks in, so I chirp it to third gear, and continue to accelerate. As we finish out the curve and enter the straight away he’s gotten ahead of me by about a ½ a car’s length. I leave it in 3rd all the way to the red line and *start* to gain some ground, but I’m quickly running out of gear. Into 4th and he’s gone, got by me with about 1 ½ car length, I shift up to 6th and shut it down. Give em’ a thumbs up for the fun, and continue on my way.
So guys – do I just suck at driving? Was my disadvantage too great? Is the Jetta that fast? Should I go out and shoot myself now?
Jetta stats: 200 hp @ 5100 Rpms / 3303 lbs
Me: 189 @ 5800 Rpms / 3250 lbs

I think you did pretty well, I mean you were driving so aggressively you fishtailed the 245 low profile tires in the rear!! the new 2.0T engine has a lot of torque. It would be hard to keep up with a 1.8L supercharge engine. Good run~

I hear ya....If you get a SB you will know what I am talking about. I am sure with the SB you would have had a better shot at taking that Jetta out.

not bad if u only got burned by 1/2 a car, i raced a 1.8T jetta in my 06 v6. and took him, he got me off the line, but after 3rd gear i pulled him by about 2 cars going 80., those cars have crappy high end tq, where as we have advantage on that. but still ther pretty peppy.

come on, I don't believe that! it'll feel faster, but in the end it doesn't really increase any power...
I'm surprised that the Jetta weighs more...
k_lundquist, it's all good, the 2.0T engine isn't all too shabby, especially when it's lined up against our M271's.
haha, I break my 265's free all the time! I don't know if it's how I drive or if it's b/c I have damn Toyo's!
