Resale on MB is actually pretty good because MB dealers discount much further than BMW or Audi. For example, my C-Class stickered for about $32K, I paid $25K because of manufacturer incentives and dealer inventory issues. So say four year residuals for C-Class are 60%, then my car would be worth about $19K when it's 4 years old, but in real life it would be valued at 77% of what I really paid.

In comparison, BMW's are tough to get discounts on but their resale value is greater. For example, say a similarly equiped 325i was $32K but had a 65% 4 years residual so it was woth $20,800. But I was only able to get $1,500 off. Then the real life residual based on what I paid was only 68% making the true bargain the MB C-Class.

It all depends on where you are. In CA, Buell's example, pricing on new MBs tend to be lower than in other parts of the country. That in turns will change the % calculations on value on resale/trade-in.

Jags are absolutly horrible. They are as bad as a Ford Taurus. Audi's still do quite well.

Around the Chicago area, MB keep their value. I have seen 04 240's with 30k miles sell for high 20's around here. It is nuts.

I think Sedan/Saloon is better resale value than Coupe (all)

Coupe(all) sales expensive everywhere but it loose too much its value than sedan.

I did not know this info before I bought my W203 coupe and it is sold too hard not to find client easily.

So but coupes are more luxary than sedan (maybe more space for driver ) this is only thing we are happy .

The C Class resale value is great. My ML? 2003, ML500 basically fully loaded. cost me a little over $56000 w/o tax. now it just hit the 40000k miles, how much does it worth? abt 19,000

SUCKS! my C class dropped less than that! so C Class= great resale vaule AND great resale market!

That's par for the course on an American made 'ute though, probably about what a Lincoln Navigator would do.

Yeah, I was gonna trade it in for the new E550 Special Edition but my friend (sales manager) said my ML dropped...especially with the new model out. and said to wait till theres a discount on the vehicle that I'm interested in. Theres really no big difference If I trade in my ML now, or 1 year later.

resale

unfortunately all resale for cars are terrible, though temporarily some cars hold up better than others. although sometimes lower price cars appear to hold up better on % basis, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. after all, nobody's going to buy C class instead of an E, S or CL just because the resale is better.

overall, i must admit that resale values of MBs in general have taken a big hit over the past five years vs. the late 1990's. i remember back in 1999/2000, lease residuals were often up to 75% for 2yrs and up to 70%+ for 3 yrs, especially on the CLK cabs. our X5 lease in 2000 had a 75% residual for 3 yrs and 45k miles. now, i'm seeing 03 clk500's very clean going for 60% of msrp 3 yrs ago. i'm also seeing clean 03 e500's going for hi 20's, and that's less than 50% of the msrp. MB's used to get 60 to 65% after 3 yrs.
of course, these are still better than audi's and jags, but still...it's worse than the MBs of the older years
.
p.s. it'll be interesting to see how porsches do. the tt996 resale is terrible and so is the cayenne turbo, but the 996's seem to be doing ok still,

You maybe right about C vs E, S or CL but within the C class equivalents, resale value plays a huge role, not only in my purchase decision but it lease residual values. This is one reason I don't lease american cars, the residuals are too low.
