I have just purchased the in-dash 6-disc CD changer (part # A203 820 90 89) for my 2002 C230 from someone on ebay. I am wondering whether installing this piece of equipment will actually register it with the computer system and work immediately.

I have heard that after installation of the CD-changer, the car needs to be hooked up to a MB computer system which dealer service centers have in order to be recognized and work. Is this true? If so, then is there a way around it? I really don't want to pay $200 for my dealer to 'activate' my CD-changer after I go through all the hard work of installing it.

It will need to be programmed eventually. Fault codes will build up until the changer stops working. Sometimes this takes months, but it happened to one person in a few days.

It isn't an in-dash changer. It goes in the glovebox.

 

If you have the Bose Audio Pilot bring the car in for a programming change. While the Tech is hooked up with the Star computer he might as well reconfig your CD Changer at no charge to you. It helps to get to know your MB Tech.
