Also, what advantage does one get by running the rears at a higher pressure than the fronts? If the car was front wheel drive, would someone use higher front tire pressure? Thanks for any info shared.

By varying tire pressure, you can slightly change oversteer/understeer: high in the front, low in the rear ==> more understeer; low front, high rear ==> more oversteer

Gosh, this is a tough one
Salesguy said to keep the same difference between front and back if I vaey from specs as he says MB set it up this way for the car's handling.
Having listened, I think 32f/28r is too low so I am experimenting with 34f/30r

MB coupe.
Thanks for all the replys.
Good information. I guess this is what the forum is all about.
I'm going out to the driveway now and put some extra air in my tires and see how this improves handling.
Thanks, Smoky

Changing the front tire pressure to something close to the rear will make the car handle in a more neutral manner. They specifically set the front pressure lower to make the car understeer (front loses grip before the rear) so that people are less likely to get into trouble. In most cars, when the front starts pushing or losing traction, letting up on the gas will bring it back in line. If the rear loses traction first, well, you better know what you are doing, or you will spin out and usually hit whatever object is in the way
Higher tire pressure will help handling to a certain extent because the sidewalls flex less when cornering, so you have better response. This is at the expense of ride comfort, however. 32/32 makes my car pretty neutral, and still gives me a smooth ride. Experiment and see what you like, (it's real cheap tuning), but remember that the changes you make may not show their complete effect until you are in an extreme condition.

tire pressure sticker
My 02 C320's tire pressure sticker behind the fuel door is actually for W202 model. Is it normal or they put the wrong sticker on? That means the tire pressure would be the same for both models?

i noticed that too, that the coupe's pressure sticker actually shows a sedan. i checked on my mom's coupe and she had the same one. i suppose they were just trying to empty some inventory as both PSI recommendations were the same

C230, C2, C7, Leather
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I just got C230 about 5 weeks ago (C2, C7, Auto, Leather, 1500 milies). I added 1 extra PSI for all my tires (29PSI front, 33PSI rear) about 2 Sundays ago. I just checked the tire pressure last Sunday and lost 1 PSI for both front tires and .5 PSI on both rear tires (in one week). I am going to re-check the pressures next Sunday however I am a bit concern about this pressure loss. Is it because they are new tires, temperature changes (both times the car was parked in my garage from Friday night to Sunday morning without running) or somthing that I shoud be concern about? Any feedback?

Before someone blasts you with a RTFM....
MB recommends 28psi front and 32 psi rear for the stock 16 inch wheel/tires. I have 17's - and have set mine at 32psi front and 36psi rear. Also depends on what tires you have and how comfortable a ride you want.

Why do they recommend so little in the fronts when it seems like that is where all the weight is? I just keep mine about 35-36 all the way around on my 17's. Rides pretty good, and I don't like anything lower, it just looks like it's riding on the sidewall.

I have found that 33 front/37 rear works ok for me. The car handles better, yet the ride is not too harsh. Plus - those 17" rims can be damaged very easily; higher tire pressure can help prevent this to a certain degree.

My setup is:
f 235/30/19 @ 35psi wheel size is 8.0"
r 265/35/19 @ 36psi wheel size is 9.5"
On a 40mph slightly banked left sweeper, I usually go about 70-75mph with no under/oversteer or drift. This is on Nitto 555's and H&R springs.

i check the preasure once a week. Takes 2 minutes but could save much more in costs of new tires.

Rules of thumb for automobile tires:
10 degree F change results in a 1psi pressure change
Tires lose 1 psi per month, regardless of temp
Always check tires stone cold with a cold engine and cold brakes (to eliminate radiation of heat from them to air in the front tires)

Also I think there are valve caps that tell you what pressure is in there. But those tire monitoring systems are just way too cool.

what pressure?
just curious what pressure most of you run? I noticed a sticker inside the gas flap that says like 28/f and 35/r (don't remeber exactly). is this for a 'stock' c230? what about one with C7 (mine)? The tires on my C7 wheels say max is 51 and had 40ish when i checked the other day.
what pressure seems to be a good compromise between ride and handling?
anyone?

As for the best compromise between ride and handling, that will depend on your personal preferences. Experiment to find what is right for you.

Pressure varies tremendously with tire temperature, not air temp. If you drove hard before you checked your pressure it will read higher than if it was just sitting there for a while. The most important factor other than checking the pressure is the difference between from front and back pressures, it controls under/oversteer. The car will handle very differently with changes in the balance of pressure. Try changing the front by + or - 2 psi and see the changes.
