2002 C230K Coupe - valve cover repaint.

Has anyone had problems with peeling paint on the valve cover of a C230K Coupe.

I am having teouble and would like to repaint mine. The red paint in the center is slightly damaged. The grey paint around it has bubled in one place and has now peeled.

Any one have this done on their car. If so could you tell me how it went and details like cost and possible concerns.

Thanks in advance

Buy a couple of foam core sanding blocks - start with a medium grit to completely remove the old paint, then finish with a fine grit to get it smooth. Scrub it with hot water and Dawn or Lemon Joy dishwashing detergent, do the final rinse with distilled water and air dry. Paint with Krylon or Rustoleum PLASTIC spray paint. Buy a plastic "trigger" for the spray paint can to better control the spray. Two or three light coats with an hour in between coats for drying, then let it sit for 24 hours before re-installing.

If you use anything other than the plastic formula spray paint you MUST use a primer over the bare plastic for it to stick.

I like the Rustoleum silver metallic "hammered" finish for a different look - and it has the added benefit of covering up any imperfections in your prep job.

So, In the C20K 2002, is part of the valve cover plastic?

I'm prety sure that the red part is metal and is the actual valve cover. The grey part however I'm not sure about (even though it does seem to be plastic both to the touch anhd in the peeled area) Anyone know this for sure.

Thanks again

On the '02, it's metal - I cleaned mine with degreaser, then sprayed on hi-temp paint (Ford blue - close enough to Orion). Has been fine for over a year now.

Thanks tommy

So, the grey part is metal. Anything (specific to this car/engine) that I should know before I remove it.

Bye the way, I will of course get a service manual be fore I do.

Thanks all
