I've seen this topic discussed numerous times before however I didn't see anyone mention that its very easy to install 05+ style tail lights on a 04 and older model C with no modification.

The 04 style bulb holders will fit into the 05 style lights if you remove one of the bottom bulbs. I did this and couldn't tell the difference from behind and I didn't get a bulb out error.

Does anyone know if its possible to do this but in reverse? Fit an 05+ with 04 lights by using the 05 bulb holders in the 04 style lights? I dont have the parts in front of me right now to try this swap...

the fitment is no problem. its just the connector pins to the bulbs are different.

Yes, but if you're talking about the sedan / saloon you loose the main benefit of the 2004+ rear lights - the fact that the whole bottom section of the light illuminates. The full width looks much better at night, looks fresher and makes the car look wider IMHO.

yes that is the primary difference and that they are crystal rather than opaque..much nicer look..IMO
