Noise At 115+mph HELP!
My normal driving is about 100mph beside wind noise it is quiet and smooth.
Today i bumped it up to 120mph not much more wind noise and still smooth but there was a hollow popping sound from i'm guessing the tranmisson area.
It was under the Arm rest.
Should i just not go that fast or could there be a problem?
Can our cars handle that speed?
I would talk to dealer about these noises. At this speed sounds may be very misleading and the real sourse of it may be some where else, not under your armrest.

and your normal driving should be 65mph considering you have a child. i wouldnt give a f**k if you said your normal driving is 65 and once in a blue you go 130+.

To the OP, sounds like and air pocket buffeting under the vehicle in the transmission tunnel. Take a look under there and make sure you do not have a bag or string or other debris under there. Also these cars are designed to handle up to there limit speed wise. Which for yours is probably around 150MPH. But I would bend down and take a peak under her and if you can not find anything then talk to the dealer. I know mine handle just fine at the 132 MPH limit set for the US. No strange noises either. But at that speed you may be hearing a panel that is loose or just wind. I have not driven a 2007 yet so maybe they do not have as much sound insulation as the previous models due to MB cutting costs to make more money per unit.

If i was going 65mph i would get ran over on the autobahn and i only break 100 when the kids not in the car. 100mph is slow for here. i'm gonna hate coming back to the states for that reason.
thanks for the reponse

The are a lot of things your father did with his car that are no longer required.
Examples:
1. Break in
2. Pump the gas pedal to start the car.
3. Warm up the car before driving.
4. Motor oil is motor oil, its all the same, buy the cheapest.
5. Only use pure antifreeze to top off the radiator.
6. Brake fluid lasts forever.
7. Premium gas is a waste of money, the carmakers are in bed with the oil companies.

Now I will tell you something about Warm up the car before driving. With rising temperature material expands and this means that your engine was designed to work at higher temperatures. Cylinders are steel and pistons aluminum. Their linear expansion differs and this difference makes your car feel little "stronger" when it's cold causing more friction, tension and faster wear. The result is your engine will not last as long as it was intended.
Pump the gas pedal to start the car. Nowadays the ECU does it for you, but if you do press the accelerator it will not hurt your car.
Brake fluid lasts forever. It may last you forever. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t say not to change it as recommended by your service manual, that’s different story. The brake fluid doesn’t evaporate from the enclosed system. If you see the level lowered, you should check for leaks

Seriously, I am not a saint and love high speed, especially just after the JFK exit where most normal people get off for the airport, go into the right lane and enjoy, no cops there ever. But on the other note, cops are not idiots eather, so I never go over speed limit + 25, just to keep my license in case sh$t happens
