No MBZ Service Dept is going to tell you how to reset the service light when the whole service has not been performed....

But you are right, 320 dollars for svc "A" is too much. We do "A" svc for $196 all day(Non AMG Vehicle and V8 models)

On top of the motor. I will get the photo's up tonight for you. I have been struggling with the transmisssion plug gasket writeup and a few other things. Look back in a few hours and I will have the pictures finished in my document.

In the meantime, it is the canister near the front, on the dirver side of the engine compartment.

Hope this helps. Just unscrew and yank the o-rings and filter off. Replace the big o-ring, then the filter, then the rest of the o-rings. Make a not of where the o-rings are located. I think they send an extra one sometimes in the pack and that can really goof you up if you are not expecting it.

thanks for the reply, after a long search under the hood (at least an hour) ....i finally found the oil filter, my car is a 2005, so the placement is different, it's actually hidden near the firewall, around where i circled in red I hope more people add to your site so other models can be represented. Thanks again

another interesting note: the dealer told me I would need 9 quarts of oil, it turns out i only need 6 (according to the manual). And....last time i was in for service, they charged me for 9 quarts, which is veeeeeeerrrrrrry fishy. From now on, i'm doing all the services myself.

What a PIA to get too. Do you have a shot of your whole engine compartment?

Do the 4 door 230's get a 4 cyl. motor?

Also, how does my C240 2.6 liter V6 fair in a drag race with the 4 door 230's?

Wow, they charged you for 9 qts(mobil 1 syn 0W 40)? If you still have the RO(Repair Order) you should file a complaint to clients relations manager(Everyday MB dealership has at least one for service as well as sales)

Looks like you need to either find a different service Advisor or try doing business with other dealership.

Hope this helps!!!

while not very apologetic, the dealer is sending me a check for the 3 quarts they overcharged me for. I would advise all customers to check your paper work, i'm convinced they are running a HUGE scam here.

stupid *** dealerships. they also charge for two sensors when they change out the front brake pads (when only one sensor is needed/used) and they also charge for rear sensors for the rear pads when no sensors are needed/used.

one dealer was trying to tell me that they charge $90 more than the other dealership for a service A b/c they rotate the tires... I was like "My tires are STAGGERED! YOU CAN'T ROTATE THEM!" tards (no offense to Jae, but this was at DTLA Motors.)

That's ridiculous. This whole experience has really left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm just glad the oil change was an easy DIY and i will no longer go to any dealer for any service anymore.

The dealer I went to said the same thing about rotating my wheels, my response was the same as yours, idiots!

Doesn't the C230 with big brakes have 2 sensors at the front and 1 at the read wheels? I remember seing it on the diagram

Anyhow, just looked at my service records fro Mercedes of Manhattan.
Here is what it says:

Flexible Service System A:
759 C hours $99.00
1 4-Cyl A Svc $84.95
1 Filter Element N/C
6 0W-40 Mobil1 N/C
.....
Total: $183.95

Flexible Service System B:
759 C hours $330.00
1 4-Cyl A Svc $168.95
1 Filter Element N/C
6 0W-40 Mobil1 N/C
.....
Total: $498.95

Interesting enough, but all the replasable components and fluids are included into the service price

I do all my own service on the Mercedes and the Porsche. I buy all the filters from other sources like Auto Parts Warehouse for the Mercedes. I just changed my fuel filter, they carry factory filters either Bosche or Mahle. The Bosche fuel filter is 71058 for c230. The dealer wanted $140.00 for the fuel filter, it was $36.00 through Auto Part Warehouse. I purchased a oil pump so I never have to get under the cars for oil changes. Cost $50.00 at the auto parts store, you can get one that does both oil and bleeds brakes now. The oil I get from Costco or Walmart, Walmart carries 1 gallon jugs of Mobile 1 for around $18.95. Costco carries six court case for around $25.00. And just follow the manuel for intervals. As for the timing chains, my 88 260E has 320,000miles on original.

quick questions

hey guys i am trying to do most of the services either myself or through my friend who is a mechanic that just opened a shop not too long ago...I just have a question about the Service B though because I spent about a good 15-30 minutes searching the forum for the list of things done at Service A&B...my questions are....what is a "Function Check" and combination filter?
and I also am wondering how to check the Active Body Control unit along with the "poly V-belt"...these last two things I have no idea what they are about haha -_-...if anybody could fill me in...i'll be very thankful as I won't have to deal with those pesky MB workers over here in the Bay Area, they all seem like a bunch of a-holes to me...
