I've got my left fog lamp broken and the dealer wants to charge me $280 for parts & labor. Shouldn't it be covered by warranty?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You'd have to contact CSI to get proof that it was a defect, not a rock. Otherwise, you'll have to pay for it.
When you do get the new one, I'd recommend Xpel or similar.

thats ridiculous
they want too much, it's just time consuming.. but not 280 worth. if you have time jack your car up and replace the $22 lens and a $5 bulb.... i did it was a learning experience a great one too..

Everyone:
please post your fog breaks here. There was a problem in the E30 BMW platform (the squareish design of the 3 series -- 2 body styles ago). Anyhow poor heat dissipation design was causing the lenses to crack on their own. BMW gave the same crap that MB will likely be giving -- must be a rock, can't be OUR design.
So let's keep the records here in this thread. That way maybe things will change.

If it is breaking because of heat, won't Expel make it worse? Yes, I know their claims that the film doesn't result in appreciable difference in heat dissipation, but I think it would.
Is it really only $27 in parts? From the dealer?

Geez, am I the only one who watches that tv show? My point was that it would be very hard to determine that the crack was from a defect and not a rock.
I have not heard of too many w203 owners' foglight lenses cracking, so I do not think that it's a common enough problem for it to smell like a manufacturing defect.
Xpel/others aren't known for causing heat build-up on lenses. Once again, because of these forums, if it happened fairly regularly, we'd have seen a pattern, which we haven't.

Broken fog lamp
I just wanted to report my broken right-side fog lamp just in case someone wanted to keep track. The lense is broken and the bulb is burned out. As amiras reported, I don't believe this was impact related, but there's no way to tell for sure.
Also, a couple of questions for those in the know:
Is there any reliable after-market parts source for items such as this? I've done a little web searching with no success. I'd especially like to find schematics for, for example, the fog lamp assembly so I can find out which parts to replace.
Does anyone out there have any stories (good or bad) about service at Flagship Motors (my local MB dealer where I bought the car) in Lynn, MA? They seem pleasent enough but I haven't had any service done yet. Forewarned is forearmed.
Any help would be appreciated.

My left fog lamp broke in half last year. I took it to my MB dealer to get it looked at but they said it wasn't covered under warranty. So i got this clear plastic sticker from 3M i believe and stuck it on the *** lamp where it broke. Now you can't even tell it was damaged.

Mine also cracked last year. It was the same kind of crack were there was no visible rock type damage.
I paid 25 dollars for the replacement lens and did the work myself.
Do a search, I posted a "how to" a while back.
