Getting cold here in maryland. Had to drive 2 hours the other day with no heat blowing on my feet.. I gotta get on this fix.

Thanks for the post and detailed instructions.

Now, my only other problem is that my heated seat button on the drivers side just stopped working..

Well this is definately a thread that deserves a sticky.

I.....
a. repaired my faulty cig aka 12v power source by installing a 3 outlet
unit into the little shelf under the stereo today, with the wires run through the back, and bolted down.
b. put in a new cup holder,
c. replaced my Audio 10 with the original POS in an attempt to get the
CD changer to work (it didn't)

and this thread was absolutely essential.

I was especially happy to be able to get the cupholder plastic part out, as in the part that goes in the console, (not the pop up one, though I put a new one of those in too) and clean it, as it had 6 years of uh....stuff stuck to it.

Sweet.

Now if I could just get the shift piece to stay in I'd be happy.
Damn thing won't stay in.

Thanks!

Make sure the shift knob is seated all the way down, then pull on the leather boot from the bottom and make sure it's extended all the way. It doesn't take much movement down to make it stay.

Stepper Linkage still making noise

Hello Everyone. So i had the usual stepper linkage problem and the usual was happening. Ticking noise on ignition on for about 30 tp 40 seconds and hardly any air was coming out of the center vents. So today i attempted to do it myself following the following forum https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...board+removing
On opening the dash, i came to 2 stepper motors. 1st on slightly left of the center console almost under the ignition switch.2nd almost in the middle where the radio is.My 1st question is, were there suppose to be more then those 2 motors there? was there a tird one on the right of the dash that i missed? Anyways as instructed, i checked the 1st one and the linkkage was broken, so i removed the motor, put the new linkage in place and bolted it back in. I checked the 2nd one, which had a different machanism mainly having some gears, it seemed fine. So i started putting everything back together. After finishing the job, i turned the ignition, and still heard 1 or 2 minor clicks, turned on the fan and atleast the center vent is blowing air properly now. But it still clicks, on a different pattern though, some times it wont click untill the fan is turned on, sometimes it will start clicking randomly. Its behaving wierd. Anyways, my question to u all is that what mistake have i made? Was i suppose the test the linkage right after installing it? Did i not sync the linkage? Could the stepper motor be bad too? Could the linkage be broken again? I am really confused guys and really want some help so that next time i do it without any problem and do it right. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Fresh air stepper motor C320...

Anyone know how to access the climate control fresh air stepper motor in a C320? Does the charcoal filter assembly have to be removed? If so, how? I'm getting a 'snapping' noise at 3/4 second intervals randomly in timing and duration from under the dash. I'm guessing it's coming from the fresh air control because it happens both while driving and sometimes immediately after the car is turned off (fresh air vent goes to 50% to ease door closing, talk about over engineering ). It's not the footwell flap actuators...replaced previously and work fine.

Where are you hearing the sounds from? The "fresh air flap" (this is what my lil service cd calls it) is located on the passenger side dash. There are way too many "stepper motors" in our ventilation system.

I have a bunch of diagrams of the ventilation system. I dont know if they will show you what you're looking for, but if you're interested PM me your email and you can try and make some sense of it all.

Replacing defroster flap motor C320...

My right defroster flap positioning motor (M2/9) needs to be replaced. I pulled the electrical plug going to it to stop the loud snapping/clicking sound. When I had the right lower dash out to troubleshoot the noise I couldn't find how to remove the blower motor and cabin filter assemblies to get to the stepper motor so I just disconnected it. Anyone know how to remove those assemblies to access the motor?

Window defroster

So its winter now here in edmonton, and the first day that it snowed i noticed something strange when i started my car. I could here a Ticking sound, as if the window was getting hit by a small rock every 1 second, at closer inspection it was inside the car and just really close to the window, and one the day i needed to defrost my window, i could hear that it was if something was blocking something, either way, nothing was coming out of my vents that help warm up my window. Any idea what this could be? simple to fix on my own? or do i have to go to a dealer?

The linkage on the stepper motor that routes air to the defroster is broken. Search the forum it's been mentioned a hundred times. It's an extremely cheap part to replace but getting to it can be a pain.

Not sure who can answer this but i'm curious on how many steppers I may have bad.

I get the clicking from the footwell and until last week only the footwell vent and the windshield vent worked. Well the windshield vent doesn't work anymore and that was accompanied by a different sharper clicking.

Also, the big center vent on the dash, I can change the dial in the center vent to blue indication and do the same for the large center vent then it feels as if it brings in cold outside air. Is that how it works?

The lighter clicking is usually a broken actuator arm. The louder clicking/snapping is usually the motor itself. But.....you won't know until you take it apart because a jammed vent could also manifest itself with the motor clicking (the internal clutch slipping).

Yes.
Thanks. The slipping sound comes from a different location, so I hope I can access it when everything is apart.

1. I just bought 2002 C230 Manual Transmission. Is W203 same as C230?

2. Also, dealer said Footflap motor and linkage needs to be replaced. Is the above procedure applies to my vehicle?

3. And last question, I only have a one smart key. The dealer is asking $200 for a smart key, but I see on Ebay people are selling those keys. Can they be programmed to use my vehicle? and how?

noreaga0221 Can you tell me which site you ordered them?

When I went to the dealer they just gave me
FOOTFLAP MOTOR part# 203-820-16-42 ($112.52)
Linkage part # 203-830-00-33 ($14.95).

Now I am confused if the part that I bought is correct one. If this is wrong, I'll have to return them because your is half the price. Can you please advise?

Thanks,

Don't buy that key, it will be useless. The dealer has to program the key new and mine cost around 130 but that was two years ago.

If those part numbers match the ones in the pictures above, then just search for the part number. They only have the stepper though. The linkage was a special order but it was cheap enough at the local dealer that I will just buy it there.

I have the piece in front of me but I haven't taken apart my dash yet. Its too cold out. Just checked, the stepper motor part number is the same I ordered. Just search by part number on the website without spaces.

HVAC air box removal

The instructions for getting to the stepper motors is brilliant. Thank you. I have a C240 with the cabin filter/air box.
Does anyone know how to get at M2/9, M2/7, M2/5 motors?
The MB dealer tells me I have to remove the whole dash, windscreen wipers and practically dismantle the whole car to remove the filter box. There must be an easier way but I can't seem to find it.
Any help would be appreciated.
