getting into first gear (Manual trans)

Those that live in the south or warm climates do not experience this, but when it is cold overnight and start up the car in the morning it is especially hard to get into 1st at a stop. While every manual car I've had this problem it is especially noticeable as soon as the temp goes below 0*c (in my Acura it had to be around-8*c). After driving for 10min I don't have this problem though getting to 1st is a bit notchy under the best circumstances

Do other people experience this? is there a solution other than moving to a warmer climate which is not in the cards.

I believe he has a 6-speed. Its normal for manual transmissions to get notchy when in cold weather. Its the fluids not warmed up yet. You can change the fluid to a higher quality one that helps with notichiness (Motul and Redline come to mind). Other than that, try going into 2nd then up to first. That seems to help with notchiness in the cold.

Put the shifter into 2nd gear first, then enter 1st gear and let the clutch out and start normally. This should help.
