Dipstick Measuring tool level
Just recently I purchased the “Oil Dipstick” measuring tool and the “Transmission” measuring tool for my 02 C240. Would anyone out there have the correct level in “millimeters” for the engine oil when measuring. On my next oil change (2500 kms) I will drain from the pan and then add the 8 litres and do a measurement. For now I am curious to what the correct oil height in the pan should be.
I would also like to know the correct level for the Transmission.
Thanks in advance.

so, went to local mb dealer to purchase fluid and so called "measuring tool". they sold fluid but said they don't sell "special tool". can you believe those freaks!
would you be so kind to tell me what's the measurment from top to the marks please?
thanks in advance.

Hi alexinvancouver,
To measure the transmission fluid properly, you should have the correct measuring tool. You could measure it with a long flexible metal, or coil rod. Approx. 40"-48" long. Measure your fluid when your vehicle is at operating temp with engine running. Take out the "transmission locking pin" (you will have to purchase a new one of these from MB). Slide your measure tool down the tube until it bottoms out. Level should measure between 55-66mm or (2 1/8" -2 5/8") up from bottom tip of measuring tool. Remember this is with engine and trans. at 80°C (operating temp.).
If transmission is cold (25°C), leave engine running. The trans. oil level should be between 10mm -20mm from bottom tip of measuring tool.
Hope this helps you out.

Hi Eric,
The transmission & engine dipsticks I received do have the measurement marks on them. I wanted to let "alexinvancouver" know the level in inches
& millimeters if he didn't have the proper measuring tool. I didn't know you could check the tranny fluid level from the car computer inside. I only know of the engine oil level reading from the inside of the car. I like using the dipstick measuring tools once in a while just to be sure.

Btw, are you saying we can check the tranny fluid from inside the car computer? How????

as i mentioned - i went to MB dealership to buy it, but salesman at the parts department said "we don't sell special tools"
i don't know what's so special about it, but i guess those crooks just want my hard earned buck, that's all.
and thinking i'm not gonna give them any makes me happy

Oh, that dimension is about 44 inches. As Mercedes designed their #140-589-15-21-00 "measuring stick" to read the fluid level in all manner of chassis/engine/722.6x combinations, it is intentionally too long. It does not seat in the fill tube to obtain its reading. It bottoms against the inside of the pan and reads "up" from there. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/Trans7226Fluid

Here are the photos of the "oil dipstick" measure tool. Total length (including handle) is 36˝" (inches) or 92cm. Close up shot of the lower part of the measure tool shows the oil level markings in millimeters.
I purchased mine from Baum Tools in Florida. I have seem them for sale online at places like RM European, Pelican Parts, Ebay, etc. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore info.
