C240 vs C230

Don't flame me! Just my opinion...

I have a loaner C240 while I get my first service done-- and a whole host of things repaired; including a key replaced that I think the shop cracked at my last visit. I know what you're thinking-- I have no interest in an extra button on my key.

First of all, these cars could not be more different in personality. My coupe is way more aggressive, handles better/harsher ride and feels quicker.

I am not knocking the 240. It is a perfectly pleasant car. Solid, smooth ride, more luxury. But the coupe fits my personality. In fact of the loaners (ML, E) and other Benzes I have driven, this is the first one that I think would be nice for my wife.

C240
I drove both when I was looking to buy, and I liked the sporty feeling of the C230 but overall I liked the C240. Maybe it's because I'm getting older?

I think that they are both different cars. The 230 is much more sporty, and the added HP and torque in the engine add to this feel. The 240 however, is a nice comfortable sedan, and is powered nicely. It's just not going to zip around corners, or jump off the line, but I don't think it was designed to do so.

To each his (or her) own. I didn't like the back of the C230 on light colored cars b/c of the black strip below the rear window. That's why I got it in black. I don't mind it so much on lighter cars anymore, though.

Overall, I think the coupe is an awesome- and distinctive-looking car. But I fell in love with the Panorama roof, 6 on the floor, and the growl and torque of the supercharged powerplant. Can't match with any car anywhere near that price IMHO.

These cars are aimed at different markets, so one would assume they would have "diffeent personalities"

white and whiter
C-coupe is more sportier because it sits lower and have harder spring set up. If C240/C320 wants to ride like the C230k, they need to opt for the expensive ($3k) sport pkg, and it's still sits higher than the C230k.

different cars for different people

2002 C240
C240 = can take three chicks at a time
C230 = can only take one chick at a time coz of the smaller back seats

that's why I chose C240.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .....................just kidding...

I dont think the C230 is for racers...
I dont know of too many 'performance' cars that the 230 could beat in a race.

But C230 is a lot more sportier than C240 seden, isn't it? Also the engine is supercharged and has more HP than c240.

Yeah, it is compared to a 240. But I doubt it would beat competitors like the RSX-S and Celica GTS. That doesnt really bother me however, I still bought one!

The Type S isn't that quick off the line...its the shift to third at 52MPH that throws the C230 off the pace of the RSX-S. From 0-50, I'd bet on the Coupe. Beyond that, the RSX-S has an advantage, its much lighter, has better gearing, and its motor pulls better once underway. Off the line, the lack of torque is really apparent.

As for the GTS...its not as fast as everyone thinks it is...I think its another car that's had some problems meeting the advertised HP...and even if all 180HP are there, you need to drive the thing like you hate it to get to where the fun is. Automatic GT-S' are an easy kill...the auto is a poor match to the torque poor, high reving engine in the Toyota.

I drove both of these cars extensively before I got my C... I probably would have picked the Toy over the Acura...the Acura is just sooooo boring looking...it looks like a Chevy Cavalier that's been riced.

One more thing...most of the Celica's and RSX's around here are the garden variety, running into a true Type S(not a badged base car) is pretty rare in my neck of the woods.

C230 coupe 6sp
The coupe has a nice balance between sport and comfort. I drove a RSX-S and it rode like my Dakota R/T, was very noisy, and you did have to drive the crap out of it to really make it perform. Plus it had much less usable room, and no center console/armrest, which I couldn't live without. The coupe is a much better car if you want something to drive everyday in reasonable comfort. I'm sure the 240 is a little more comfortable, but at the expense of handling. It really comes down to what you like/need in a car. But the coupe is a nicely balanced car, and if you can live with the base car, it is an absolute steal when you consider all the technology/safety equipment that comes standard.

I can tell a lot of people aren't acura fans here I sat in and drove a RSX premium before, not breath-taking fast, but it felt like it had a lot of pep. Not a big fan of the interior, looks too cluttered and fancy to me. On the other hand, the older Integra Type R was a great car. No fuss interior, fast, and, well, yeah, fast Never drove it, just sat in it, so i can't comment on anything else. But it sure felt faster than my c-coupe.

No offense, but the most comment I heard from people who drive Celica GT-S (6 speed) is: it's not as fast as you think it is...

Hmm? Do I want a rear wheel drive "Mercedes" or a slightly cheaper and better performing front wheel drive Jap. import? Please! I'll leave the latter to the kids and middle aged women

I have raced and beaten both. 0-130mph
In my races they were close on the start (dumped clutch very high) but as we got over 70 i gradually pulled all the way to 130 having about a 4 car lead

How did you dump the clutch on an automatic?

my brother has an rsx-s and its pretty quick and is a lot of fun to drive. when my parents bought me my car, we test drove the GTS and the type s again. the acceleration on the gts wasnt all that great and the interior wasnt all that appealing to me. but i ended up with the c230 because my parents felt it wasnt worth the money (the one i wanted was about $26k with options) and since my brother already has an rsx-s....i ended up with the c230. and i mean even though its not made for racing, its quick, handles well, is very luxurious and i get a lot of stares ...and you dont see too many c230's on the road over here. but on the other hand, i know about 6 people with GTS's and 5 with rsx-s's....i like being different
