Protection

Does anybody know if there is a certain kind of wax, or something that you can buff onto the car for extra protction from swirl marks and rock chips.??
Also I have heard from somewhere a while ago, that there is also an expensive protectant that prevents scratches from pentetrating into the body "deeply" or into the core of the body/paint?? Is that the case?

If so, can this protctant be done at the dealer before delivery??

No such product. Paint will always be scratched if the contact media is harder than the paint. There is nothing you can apply to the paint to make it reject stone chips since rock is harder than paint. Beware some dealers will try to sell you all kinds of paint sealants and other such products prior to taking delivery of your car. These are high profit margin extras that add hundreds of dollars profit to the dealer. Don't get suckered.

I plan on installing the Xpel 3m Clear bra on the front of the car to help prevent stone chipping on the front. Since, I also do alot of parking in the city, I am having a piece applied on the rear bumper to prevent minor bumping.

I received quotes of $600-900 installed for these products. The dealers around here use Armourfend which is similar.

Where are you ordering that "3M clear bra" from? Where are you going to get it installed?

Smile Bound to happen

It's inevitable.

The first scratch will hurt a little, but hey, it's going to happen.

The website is www.xpel.com and they have a list of installers.

The Armourfend website is www.armourfend.com.

Yes, the first scratch will hurt... but on my last car I put 110k miles on it in 4.5 years... the rest of the body looked great still, but the front bumper and hood was pretty messed up.

Winters in the boston area are not kind to cars.

Don't forget http://www.stongard.com/

Their claim is that they are the only one that "wraps around the edges"...

I used xpel on the front of my car.
$199, and I installed it myself.
It is AWESOME. It is almost totally invisible, and makes the front end chip proof.
(I did just the front bumper, I don't like the hood piece, because that you CAN see the edge on).

can you post a pic

I would like to see how the clear cover looks covering the bumper. If anyone else has a cover over the front of their, I am interested in seeing that as well. Am presently evaluating what to cover the front end with. Small rocks and pebbles are merciless when you're traveling above 80mph.

I can't post a pic, but believe me, it would be of no use. It would look exactly like a stock, brilliant silver C240 front end! You'd never be able to see it in a picture.

I highly, highly recommend xpel. The paint on the front end seems very brittle and susceptible to paint chips. I got a couple within the first few hundred miles. I put it on and have had no chips since (over 8000 miles). It a lot of piece of mind knowing the front of the car is "bulletproof" as you are blasting at 85 mph down the highway!

xpel (the others, stongard, etc. are good too, they all use the same 3M Scotchcal material), absolutely stops paint chips. Period. And, at least on the bumper, you just can't notice it. Unless you were looking for it, and had the right lighting, you would never even know its there.

Its not super easy to put on yourself, but if you have DIY auto experience, its not bad. But, I think xpel definately downplays the difficulty on their website.

check out xpel.com for more info.

I was thinking of putting on the clear plastic protectant also....but I have heard that the plastic "yellows" over time....I have read on the websites that the makers claim that their products do not "yellow" over time....anyone have any concerns overt his fact?

well, I'd like to see paint protection for the ENTIRE surface. Trucks not only kick up stones that hit your car in front, but I'm also getting paint chips on the doors (it's directly behind the "shadow" of the side mirror.. so it couldn't have come from the front).

Damn water-based paints.

pokerFACE...

you're not kidding....here in AZ, I need something for my front windshield....already had to have the thing repaired....and have way too many pits for my liking.....seems like Mercedes uses soft pain...and soft glass....maybe it is just the roads in AZ...seems like every rock that is on the roads finds my car....the search continues for something that will help....
