Keys - chapter 3

Ok, so you've decided that you want a 3 button remote. You have the part number. Can you buy this remote - remotely?

What is involved in adding it to your car - that is so it actually starts and opens it (LOL).

i'm guessing.. just guessing.. that you'd hafta bring in the key.. granted that you could find one... into mercedes... for them to program...

when the benz first came out with the infra red, on the S class.. i thought i was pretty tricking in training my palm pilot to read and copy the IR... i could get the door to unlock only once.. then the IR code would change.. (damn those smart germans).. so i'm guessing it has a rolling code which needs to be programed by mercedes...

oops - who said that?

Let me throw a new kind of key in there. I just picked up my 2003 C230K tonight, and guess what I got??

A two button key. No panic button, just open and close buttons. Part number etched on key side says xxx x291.

Anybody seen that kind before?

The Canadian market C 230 K does not have a Panic button (which is great, I hate the things). This button reminds me of the little boy that cried "wolf"; for every genuine panic situation there are 1000 accidental actuations...

My wife's 2002 jetta has a panic button. I find it useful when we lose the car in a large parking lot. If you are close enough, but can't see it, press the panic button and the car will scream at you. Used it a few times..

If you order the security option in Canada you get the panic button. I believe the security option is standard equipment in some other countries. Just another option they can make us Canadians pay for.

oops - who said that?

Better than grabing 2 wires, sticking them in a household outlet and then touching those wires down on the traces on the PCB.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

Didn't hear that from this "SPARKY"
