Really cold out, clank noise from windshield

Really cold out, clank noise from windshield
< 20 degrees, something clanks around the middle of the front windshield when going over bumps. Did not have this noise when the temps were above 32 degrees.

It has been really cold in toronto and mine just did that last week, first I thought that it was the windshield cracking but it is ok

At least we know it's a common noise. I don't think it made that noise when the car was a few years old, but now that the car is nearing 100 000 km I guess a few sounds are normal.

here in Joisey, so far this week, I got ESP NOT AVAILABLE, BATTERY/ALTERNATOR VISIT WORKSHOP. Both were cleared after restarting car Damn cold weather!!

OK, sounds like a pattern to me.
Unfortunately we're slated to stay below freezing for at least one more week. Obviously something contracts enough to the cold to allow for some jiggling to occur.
Other cold weather issues: 1st gear almost impossible to engage for the 1st 30 secs of driving. Car bogs when given a lot of gas under 3000 rpm. mpg has dropped by at least 5mpg.
Nice things about cold weather: Exhaust note changed, sounds like V8.
A LOT more power.
