MP3 CD changer for MY05
I just wanted to share with you guys my newest mod. Sorry I didn't take any pics since it looks the same as stock
I purchased a MP3 cd changer off ebay model# mc3520 part#A203-870-33-89.
I have done the AUX input with an Ipod and was never really satisfied with the audio quality. I was debating on getting the Ipod kit or MP3 changer. I decided to go with the changer since I could probably install myself and it uses the fiber optic cable. Install is easy if everything goes smooth. My case it didn't. I said to myself this is too easy and why did I wait so long to do it.
Well it took 10min to remove and plug in the new changer only need to unscrew one torx screw. It fit pefectly where the old one was. I was reading on another post that it was alittle longer and can't use the same bracket and some people used velcro on the bottom. For the 05's it uses the exact same bracket so it OEM fitment.
So after 10min I was patting myself on the back for a job well done. I turned on the radio and pressed the CDC button and it said "no magazine" then "CDC error" I was like I knew that was too easy. I tried ejecting the magazine and it wouldn't budge. So I was pissed thinking I got screwed by a shady ebay seller. I could of went through the hassle of asking for a refund and shipping it back but I decided to do that as a last resort. So I carefully opened the changer and pryed one of the sliders back into the magazine. Reassembled and pluged it in and the magazine came out. So I guess I will never know if the seller sold me a jammed changer or UPS caused one of the sliders to come out and it jammed when I first plugged it in. I tried one of my mp3 discs i created and it worked!
Info on burning MP3 cds https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ght=mp3+itunes I burned using 320kbps MP3s instead of the 128kbps MP3s I import to my Ipod and still had alot of room left on the cd but I only put 99 songs. The audio quality is better than what was coming from the AUX input.
I highly recomend this upgrade to anyone with an 05 just ask the seller to ship it with the magazine out.

Yes it should play MP3 CD's. You may want to remove the ID3 tags before burning them. I read somewhere that it may cause it to lock up.

Just to make sure everybody is aware, this does not work for 2001-2004.5 models.
-EDIT- Well, unless you are Sunman!...hahahaha...but that's a whole lot more money.

Yup...But like I was saying, unless you decide to go the route that Sunman did (update everything), it's not gonna happen.
What I plan on doing is getting Comand and getting the auxilary output. Then getting a mobile dvd player that plays mp3 audio. That's the best alternative (unless you revamped the entire sound system).

It should mines does, the dealer when I bought the car didnt even mention it.. I found out later while reading the instructions to the stereo system..
the 1 disc in the behing the navagation is also MP3
plus all 6 in the changer.. = alot of mp3's... however the one thats behind teh head unit can read seperate folders, whereas the one in the 6 disc cannot.. well on my car anyways.

Do the tags show on the display or is it track #s only? I wanted one back in the day but the changers then were lik $500 bucks. It was better to do the Ipod, but if I can get one for $200. I might have a change of heart.

Exactly...
I remember the first time I joined this forum and didn't know who Sunman was, I search for all the threads he made. Once I went through them, I knew right away that all the stuff he was doing was most likely going to be "one-off" changes that nobody else would attempt!...LOL (well, aside from Steve).
