Fuel gauge drops

Fuel gauge drops
My gfriend has a 03 320 coupe.The fuel gauge drops to the bottom when the fuel level comes near the reserve..No warning light at all ,just drops to the bottom.
Even with refueling it won't move sometimes.
The problem is that it does not happen all the time,and ofcourse it works perfect when i am at the dealer.
The dealer is having a hard time diagnosting it 'cause there is no faultcode anywhere in the system.
They changed the sensors,updated the IC software without any luck so far.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Fuel sender unit is probably on its way out. This part reports how much gas is left in the tank and if its faulty, it could give an inaccurate reading or just not read at all and thats why you're seeing empty on the gauge. Tell them to check that.

This problem goes back to the W202's.I've had my 00' C230K replaced and my C43 does it from time to time.The contacts are bad on the fuel sensing unit in the tank.Just another quality conntrol issue with MB and its electronics.

Thanks for the fast responses guys. I just called the dealer and i was told that they "threw some more parts at it"..lol..Well sounds good to me...if it works.
