Comand died

Well I apologize if this is already posted, but I couldn't find anything regarding the 2004.5 and up model comand navigation head units. Last night I turned on my car and noticed that the radio was completely black - no lights, no power. I restarted the car a few times and left it overnight and nothing. Seems like it just died on me. The iPod still has the mercedes logo on the screen like normal, and the CD changer still ejects the magazine just fine - but no sound and no power to the head unit as far as I can tell. I called and arranged a service appointment but I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem on a newer refreshed model COMAND system? Or anyone have any thoughts? I'll post the results - I just hope I don't need to have this radio replaced because it took months and months to get all the destinations stored in memory... Its not a Euro model or anything -- stock US nav that I got with the car.

- Eric

There is some updated software for those Commands, but whether it needs it or not will have to be determined at the dealer..

Actually, it's 2005+ models that have the newer system Comand. That being said, I'd wait to see what the dealership says and then report back here. I haven't heard about anything like this, so I'm sure whatever you find out will be helpful to a lot of people in the future.

that's right 2004.5 and older W203's run a D2B COMAND

2005+ W203's run a MOST DVD-based COMAND

Sorry for the delayed update folks -- here's what happened. I dropped off my car for the day and they "equalized" the system and everything worked again... strange. I also noticed that on my loaner car there was a beep when you lock and unlock the car -- but not the netherlands setting - this still had the panic function and didn't beep in syncro with the lights. Was very cool indeed --

I asked them if they could do this for me and my service rep enabled it on my car. Its possible on any 2006+ vehicle. Very cool option indeed.

Peace,
- Eric

I still have my panic function. Steve (MBenzNL) did it, so couldn't tell you what he did to keep the functionality in my 2004.5
