Trade in value

Hey all. I love my car, but I am itching to maybe get something new and I was just wondering if anyone had any idea of what a good dollar amount would be for a trade in. I have the heated seats and headlight washers, and the tele aid promotion with the oyster cloth interior. The car has 16k miles on it, but is in perfect condition. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I saw a silver/charcoal one with auto trany, no options, at a used car dealer (only sells used MB and BMW) with 16k miles on it for $25500.

This is NOT a trade in price! I would suggest going to www.kellybluebook.com and following the instructions for trade in. Along with the trade in value, you can also see what the private sale value would be (if you were to sell it yourself), and the retail value (what you would pay at a dealership). I have found that the trade in values listed are pretty accurate. I would also suggest rating the car as "Good" and not "Excellent" as a lot of dealers never consider a used car in excellent condition (for trade in). Of course, the trade in amount may be negotiable.

Kelly Blue Book

Unfortunately Kelly Blue book does not have a large enough sampling for the cars to give a price estimate, that is why I have decided to post this question in this forum.

trade in may be crap, but resale is good...

if you sell it privately you will get a fair amount for your car. If you give it as a trade, then the dealer has to prep it to sell it and make profit for themselves so the value will be noticeably lower. Best of luck.

Given the recent rash of 0% percent giveaways, the used car market is FLOODED with vehicles. Don't take it personally...unless youve got a Mini, NO DEALER is gonna give you top dollar for a used car. And basically, that's there game, what did you expect?

That's not bad really. They sell C7/C5 '02 leftovers for $26-27k brand new. If I was shopping for a car I would pay 26k for a brand new coupe vs. a used one for 24k, even if the used one had some extras like aftermarket xenons.

In California you have to pay tax on a used or new car. Sure you can cheat but by how much before the tax board investigates. The only thing you may save on in California is registration fees if they haven't expired yet, so on a half year old car you save half year of fees. On the other hand, lucrative finance deals on brand new cars makes it worthwhile to pay a higher price and keep the payments the same. For example, your used car at 24K would cost $510/mo for 5 years at 10% interest that used cars typically go for. Take the 26.5K brand new car and your payment is 512/mo for 5 years at 6% interest.
