What Oil can I put in

Hey guys I did a search for this...but I didn't come up with anything...if you guys can find something relevant...I apologize.

Well since I recently had my last free maintenance ...I will start going to my personal mechanic (He already maintains my other car) and I was wondering what kind of oil would you guys recommend? Should I stick with some Mobil1 or should I go over to Castrol or anything else? And I never knew but...does the dealership use Fully Synthetic Oil? Because I was hoping I could just buy oil by the box and use the same oil for both cars... (I think both of my cars have the same viscosity, but right now on my other car I use Castrol's Fully Synthetic). Thanks in advance.

I use Mobile One with the 229.5 AMG reference.

I also use the fleece filter on my 02 C230 Coupe.

I am at 130K miles and no engine issues.

I called the dealership and spoke to a service advisor, who told me to use any fully synthetic 5w40 oil. Its possible the grade of oil varies per location due to temperature differences. I *think* I picked up some Castrol just in case I need a top-up, but according to the in-dash measurement, I haven't needed one yet (got the car used 2.5 months ago), so I havent used the oil yet.

look under your car at where the jacks usually go...on my car (not too sure about yours) I have these circular platforms where the jacks are to go...It's a painted (matching your car's color of course) circular surface...should be under your driver/passenger side (depending which side you are on) door...towards the front of it...sorry, don't know how to describe exact location...just clues hah

I do believe the manual has pictures. You might want to take a look at it and then at your car.

Does the owner's manual have any information about oil requirements?

Be aware that only one Mobil 1 oil satisfies the MB 229.5 standard.

The owners manual towards the back will tell you what they "recommend" and it is always Mobile 1. Thats why it will say it under the hood. I would just stick with that!

I looked on a bottle of Mobil 1 and can not see where they have the MB 229.5 standard. I see the API standards but never the MB rating

I've outlined the MB spec on the back of a bottle of Mobil1 0W40 that I used in my wife's car.

Thanks, that must only be on the 0w40, the other grades don't have that on the back. Also when I check in my manual it does not specify the weight of oil only to say "Use recommended oils by Mercedes"

Hey guys so I was browsing through Amazon.com and it popped into my head "I wonder how much oil costs on Amazon.." So I look for Mobil1 0W-40 oil...came up with two things....do you guys know the difference between these two? And which one should I be using?
Mobile 1 0W-40 Synthetic Oil

Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic Motor Oil with SuperSyn Formula

Thanks in advance guys

Mobil 1 supersyn 0w 40 is the 229.5 approved one and that's what you should use, i went through the whole thing not too long ago. the dealer sells it for about $8 CDN /liter which was cheaper than NAPA

Thank you very much!!

And also...if anyone knows this it would be great...

I have a friend that owns a '06 Civic SI (pretty nice little coupes) and lately I helped him do a oil cahnge but with Castrol "Fully Synthetic"...I was wondering (for his next oil change) if it is possible to put in some 0w-30 since right now he runs 5w-30....it wouldn't be "unhealthy and too thin" for his engine would it? Even after reading a couple posts and a couple of other supplementary links I am still confused on if some oils (like Mobil 1 0w-30 or 0w-40) is too thin for some cars like my friend's Civic SI...hmm...can anyone fill me in?
