I have the loud knocking noise from the engine compartment that others have complained about. The tech said it was a design fault of the car and the best they could do was to bend the bracket a little so that the solenoid wouldnt resonate against the frame which amplifies the noise. Did anyone have their purge valve replaced which resulted in the noise going away or was it explained to you that this was how the car was designed?

I've had the valve replaced with a "re-designed" unit on my 2001 C320. The tapping noise is much lower than before, although not completely disappeared.

i had the purge valve replaced at service A i think... it just reduces the noise...does not eliminate...

I had mine looked at and was told that I already had the upgraded valve mount from the factory.

My build date was 2/2/01

Yepp, had mine fixed as well. But now I imagine it stared to tick louder again. I'll mention it next service...

I didnt get mine fixed. The noise for 30 seconds doesn't bother me.

My C320 purge valve bracket 001-995-56-65 was replaced when I complained about the noise and the noise is very faint now. I have read posts where the valve was replaced and stopped the noise as well.

I to have a ticking sound which comes into the car compartment f/pax side to confirm the noise i disconnected the electrics on the purge valve i have replaced the valve with a new one but still ticks what i am finding is that the process lasts approx 30 seconds then goes quiet for approx one minute then process starts again is this anormal length of time?.I have also noticed when i have removed the petrol cap i do not have any venting [Whoosh] sound coming from the tank like air or fumes being released from the tank and wonder if this is related to the purg valve ?hence the valve purging every 60 seconds i do hope i have made myself clear as this noise drives me mad. after all this the car is a beauty cheers from w.australia
