I'm worried about it shifting over time.

It's pretty simple, as long as you don't f*ck up the wiring when you pull out the cluster.

I did a full write-up with pics on the "other" forum, in the DIY section. Pretty nicely done, if I do say so myself.

did that way back in the day, with authentic AMG silver gauge ring.

Word of Caution:

when you take apart the Instrument Cluster, there are two "sticker" seals that keep the two parts together. Do NOT tear off those seals, use some sort of steaming to slowly pull those back. You will need to stick those back on as original. If something goes wrong with your Instrument Cluster or you accidentally break something, and does seals are missing. The warranty is voided on that whole part.

No, the write-up is on mb klasse.

Didn't notice a seal at all; though, at 90k for me, the warranty's the last of my concerns.

I used the ebay one - the AMG one would, of course, yield more net hp on the dyno.

I broke down and ordered one.
Just something new to see on the dash.
A little eye candy for the daily drive.

A little help, on the MB tool, do the hooks face up or down? or does it matter.

Hmmm - I don't think it matters; you just keep fishing and going counter-clockwise until you feel it pop. Do it slowly - you'll feel it catch.

Can anyone put the DIY link please?

I'm interested more in the center piece, I don't like the bigger one...
Its the small center one installed after removing the original one in the cluster or is glued or somtething above the original part???
