Not what you may think, keep in mind that most pre-2005 MBs came with free 4 years maintenance. Since my 2002, I've never done an oil change or any maintenance on my either of my C230 that wasn't free from MB and don't plan to for another 1 1/2 years at which point I may have to look for another car. Besides, what's different about doing an oil change to the V6 vs. the Kompressor? Same concept.

plus, if you do it yourself, you know it is done right. Additionally, there are not many oil brands I trust to efficiently last 10,000 miles. What is everyone using? I'm planning to use Amsoil due to results in my A4, which were not experienced with any other oil brand; lower engine temps and smooth idle upon start up to name a couple.

I plan on doing my own changes as well. Dealer is too far away and too expensive. I'll just need to locate a reset tool for the service light like I did for my bimmer

Knock-Knock, it is the year 2007. Mobile One Synthetic is just fine.

There are many oils approved for use in Mercedes cars around the world. The only one that is readily available in the USA is Mobil 1 0W-40. Other Mobil 1 products are not approved, nor are Amsoil, Redline, or Raylube because the latter do not meet the requirements of spec. sheet 229.5. Mercedes did test Amsoil, and it did not meet this specification.

This 0W-40 Mobil 1 oil has a different additive package than other types, and the fleece filter developed by Mann for Mercedes work as a system to allow the longer change interval.

Using another oil is at your peril of damage from sludge, combustion byproducts, and mechanical wear.

Engines torn down with 250,000 miles of service with approved expendibles have virtually no wear.

amsoil seems to be approved from my readings, but I didn't really dedicate much time. My preference for amsoil isn't to save warranty as mine has expired, but rather to prolong the life of the car. I know a lot argue against the quality of amsoil, I too until actually experiencing it first hand. Whatever your choice, I'm not going to criticize it, and in return hope you don't criticize mine. My statement above was just pointing out details of an experience in hopes someone can gain from it.

this are gathered information from this site and from my experience:

use mobil 0w40, that's what mb recommends.

buy oil filter (and cabin filter for the hell of it) at the dealer

buy an oil extractor from a boat shop, or tool depot

warm up engine to normal running temp

extract oil from the tube with the red plug

remove oil filter (it's adjacent to the firewall on the driver side)

replace oil, thru the oil filler

reset maintenance schedule

test and feel good about yourself.

I'll be doing mine this weekend too.

That's what MB USA recommends, MB recomends ELF from what I've heard. Here's some more specifics as the new Flex Fuel Vehicles (and I guess the older C320 FFV) has slightly different oil requirement. Ironically, not all Mobil 1 synthetics meet MB standards.

How many Quarts of oil for a 2002...C240

Can someone answer a Q for me? I have a 2002 C240. How many quarts of oil does it take? I have done a search, however I found conflicting answers. DIY University states 9 Quarts (which to me seem high) others who own a C230 sports sedan say 6 Quarts. What is the correct answer here? Are the oil pan reservoirs the same on a C240 and C230 sports sedans?

The Amsoil European Car Formula Synthetic 5W-40 does NOT meet MB 229.5 specification. It instead meets MB 229.3 and MB 229.51 specifications.

Oils that meet MB 229.51: "MB sheet 229.51 approved oils; low ash long life, Mercedes pioneered this new spec for passenger cars with diesel engines with EURO 4 or Bluetec exhaust particle filters and longer service life than the 229.31 oils. The spec was introduced in 2005. Change intervals increased to 20,000 kilometers. Based on ACEA A3 B4 and C3." according to Wolfgang's ML Page web site, which always has the up-to-date information.

Oils that meet MB 229.5: "MB Longlife Service Oils for passenger cars with gas and diesel engines with extended drain intervals beyond 229.3 oils, to 30,000 km, min 1.8% fuel saving, first oils introduced summer 2002. ACEA A3 B4. For gas engines of the M100 series, gas engines of the M200 series and diesel engines of the OM600 series (not models with Euro 4 diesel particle filters). 229.5 engine oils must be used with fleece oil filter designed for use with 229.5 engine oils." also according to Wolfgang's ML Page web site.

Is there a different Amsoil that meets the MB 229.5 specification?

It is important to remove the oil filter, prior to draining the oil. The oil within the housing drains to the sump, after the housing is loosened. The oil filter opening is an easy location for dumping in the fresh oil, prior to replacement of the housing with the fresh filter.

The C230k engine is very different from the C240 engine.

The C230k has a supercharged inline-4 cylinder engine that holds 6 quarts of oil. The engine delivers a lot of horsepower from a small displacement, so oil quality is critical.

The C240 has a naturally-aspirated V6 engine, and holds 8.5 quarts of oil, according to the official STAR Service Manual CD.

yep, MBs have pretty large oil capacities. My old 2.2L I4 took 5.5 quarts of oil.
