Newest Mod: 10/16/2007

Mod: Authentic Lorinser Roof Spoiler

Hi All, Heres my newest mod, the authentic Lorinser roof spoiler.

I bought the spoiler to the shop yesterday, idiots wanted $120 for paint, excluding install, I said and I left.

I got home, took out my "model building equipment" which involves primer, gloss paint and clear coat paint. and I painted this myself.

I was afraid of F-ing up! but, hey I got it done, I have 1 layer of primer, buffed at 200 grit, 3 layers of enemal high gloss black paint, and 3 layers of clear coat! perfection! see the pictures below!

G, it looks like you mounted it lower than it normally sits. Isn't it supposed to mount right where the glass starts?

I pointed that out to him yesterday when he showed me the pics and he said the instructions said to mount it 37mm below the top of the glass so it doesn't get in the way when opening the hatch.

No No No

look at my Lorinser Roof Wing... it's NOT supposed to be mounted at the edge. Otherwsie, you wouldn't be able to open the rear hatch.

That's exactly right.

Additionally, there are two versions of the Lorinser Roof Wing:
1) w/ cut-out for MB GPS antenna
2) w/out cut-out for MB GPS antenna

Gary, do you have the MB GPS antenna, requiring the 37mm spacing ?
Because the Lorinser instructions for mine (non-antenna version) only said 30mm.

I have the no-antenna whole, and it says 37mm? I think it is a little low, i think i'm gonna open the hatch all the way, and then mount it from there.

I moved the spoiler up today, its about 1.5mm away from the panorama roof when the hatch is opened up all the way, it was a pain in the ***. I used, this clear 3M gel-double sided tape, Very something Bond

Didn't your Lorinser wing come with the install kit?
  • Fillet knife
  • BETACLEAN
  • Sanding paper
  • BETALINK K1
  • Multi-nozzle

Their bonding material is like super-glue on crack steroids.
Additionally, Lorinser recommends:
"Do not drive the car for 5 hours. At temperatures below 5º C and with no other means of mechanical support, the vehicle must not be driven for 12 hours. The vehicle should not be cleaned in a car wash until 48 hours have elapsed."
