number of catalytic converters?

quick question, how many cats does the 02 c230K have, and would it be beneficial for me to remove the rearmost converter? i figure giving the engine a bit better flow would be beneficial to the HP. i see that the rear most cat is behind the last 02 sensor, so replacing it with a "test pipe" wouldnt be any big thing at all, very inexpensive. i know from past experiences with cars that removing the cat, or installing a high-flow unit is almost always eneficial.... but i've never owned a car like this before. (past experience is 1986 Nissan 300zx turbo 5 speed).... like i said, technology has come a long way since then.....

2. one off the header manifold. secondary cat [right around] under the passenger seat. resonator about 18-24" after the secondary cat.

I was going to remove the resonator when installing my eisenmann. the pitch will surely change, however, there may be a loss of low end tq cause of lack of backpressure. i didnt risk losing what is next to non-exsistant, so left it on.

good luck. some people remove their resonator yet still keep their stock muffler. its all in what ya want

interesting. low end torque? well, the car wasnt made for low end torque, so i may as well remove that pipe anyhow. i'll take it to the muffler shop and have them do it. especially since its simply a resonator, not a catalytic converter.

also, i'm installing a alcohol/methanol injection kit, and need to know where the mass airflow sensor is. i'm not usually so darn helpless but this car is built with everything covered up! the nozzle has to be installed after the MAF, and after the intercooler. i know where the intercooler is, so now its just to make sure the MAF isnt in some crazy place.

edit: also, i had the stock muffler removed and replaced with a flowmaster series 40 with an oval black chrome exhaust tip that looks just like the stock tip, yet is ever so slightly larger and looks better than stock. the sound is very nice, its nearly completely silent at idle, with a throaty growl at low rpm's, and finishes off the mids and highs by getting rather quiet and euro-sporty like. i like the sound. if i can take a video that actually sounds good, i'll post a link to it on here.

have any sound clips, pics, or video clip. Im interested in removal resonator as well. If i replace the cats with hi-flow will i still have back pressure problems.

see, i was mighty confused by this....i went into the muffler shop expecting to spend a darn pretty penny.... i went in and specifically asked for hi-flo cats and muffler system, i wanted the whole thing from the second cat back replaced. the guy took a look at my stock cats and swore that they would flow better than his high flow units. i was pretty confused because i know the honeycomb in high flow cats is rather short, and in stock cats its usuually very long, i thought that would help the flow but he begged to differ. so by his reccommendation i simply replaced the muffler and tip, it sounds good, i think it gave it a decent boost in horsepower, maybe 5 or 6 or so, just seems to get up to speed better, but it maybe be power of suggestion, the whole (i spent money, and its louder, so the car feels faster) but i'd swear my acceleration is a lot better.

anyways, after this formation (military crap) i have to go to, i'll take her out somewhere and get my buddies to hold the camera and i'll do some revving in place and take offs. just so you know, my car has the folllowing mods: team green air filter, muffler and tip replaced with flowmaster, intake resonator removed, and a 60 lb sub box in the trunk. speaking of which, i should show a few pictures of that too, its this new system by alpine..... no subs at all, just weird contraption! its equal to two 12" subs and a 500W rms amp, and its a self-contained unit, amp and all.

my mods i'm doing this weekend are: alcohol/methanol injection, supercharger crank pulley.
