2002 C230 Coupe(M111)
A stock C230 would run better than 7.1(MT-COTY) to sixty if 1)the car wasn't so damn heavy(3310LBS), and MB had picked the gear ratios better. You run strong up to 53mph, and then you have to shift into third. 2 gears to 60 would knock another half second off that time or more. The gearing in the C230 is a hand me down from the C240, which needs the lower gearing just to gets its fat lazy *** off the line. And I'm not being mean saying this, but the only car Ive ever driven that's more lackluster off the line was a Chevette. The V6 versions of the C230 with an auto are just as dismal off the line- but that engine does make some decent power up top.
BTW, I've never seen a review of the 323 that had it running faster than 7.3 to sixty, so I'd say a stock C230 and your 323 are pretty evenly matched. Your down a few ponies, but a helluva lot lighter.

Search for the following usernames:
drexappeal, mig888, frankw, jo17jC230, lorinsercclass, nlpamg, cappa26, MiKeSSw203, emrliquidlife (those who I didn't indicate on the list, please forgive me for forgetting, cuz I know there are more - just let me know and I'll edit/add you)
Believe me, there are A LOT! If you search all of those names alone, you'll find a bunch of threads/pics.

yea i know all of them are in our area. i just don't see them or anyone else not on the forum and by naming a few usernames doesn't mean theres a lot of modded C's in the L.A. area lol. i just dont think there is, i see more modded CLS' and S550s in the LA area.

wtf has happened to this thread? I'm gone two days and it's still going on...
so LStard rear ended an M5 huh?
I'd disagree with a C240 keeping up with an A4 2.0, no way in hell. the C240 is down what in that matchup, 50 hp?
and I see modded everything in damn LA! I also see tons of modded C-Classes that aren't even on mbworld!

The only BMW that a C240 can be is the 318. Look, the C240 is a good looking car, very luxurious with all the personal touches that Mercedes-Benz is known for, but it's not a sport car. The sport car is the C230; and even the C230 itself are not faster than the BMW counterparts (325/328).
I've said this time and time again. The difference between Mercedes-Benz and BMW is that, BMW build the car thinking performance and then factors in luxury; Mercedes builds luxury with performance.
Now - remember - AMG is a different story, as is M is a different story. But generally, this is the philosophy between the 2 brands.
Enjoy your C240, but if you want a FAST car go buy an EVO/WRX, those achieve 0-60MPH faster than C55's and M3's. Your C240 cannot beat the new Nissan Altima; but it's a better car.

Oh man, this reminds me of the past when the C240 gets ridiculed by almost everyone else on the C-class forum, including many C230K owners.
Those of you around in 2005 may remember this thread where there was a video showing a stock C240 with 5 speed auto pulling away multiple times from a stock C230K (with the 1.8L supercharged I4) with 5 speed auto when doing highway runs up to 110-130mph.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/109077-c240-vs-c230k-video-released.html
Unfortunately, the video is not available anymore, but reading through that thread gives you an idea what happened. I laugh when C230 owners think they have a "sports car" when a C240 could outrun a C230 sedan on highway runs. Sure, many cars can smoke a C240 from a standstill, but the C240 can definitely hold its own against some cars at highway speeds when the motor is spinning in its sweet spot (above 4000rpm).
And yes, I'm an ex-C240 owner.

Classic maximas. I had a gold 1995 model, 3 pedals of course. I loved that car. My boy still has his 96 max (5 speed) and he gets me everytime. Once we hit 2nd gear he is gone. We won't even talk about the 2007 max.

Hahaha...I know, bro. I was just messin'. Wow, 330 levels, well...come to think of it a 330 tried to run me before my car started acting up. Let's just say, I wonder if the driver enjoyed the rear view of my car.

I own both 05 c240 and 00 BMW323CI.
BMW 323Ci is the lowest hp BMW car in US and even though I put 180K miles on mine, it will easily beat any c240 on the straights and in curves. stock bmw323 with a good driver can do 6.9 secs to 60 (which is my 60 time). 328-330 models run to 60 less than 6.2 secs.I was looking at a kompressor version and even that one is 7.2 secs to 60 which is still slower than a stock 323. Plus it is supercharged 4 banger, which means you have to keep the revs high to have any kind of power vs. NA 323 which has a lot of torque from 1500rpm and always quick and fun car.
Owning both I still enjoy driving the BMW more even though it is 7 years old. I hate to say it but C-class looks good but when it comes to performance it lacks quite a bit.

stock 323 running 6.9s?? I really dont think so.. my charged e36 325(175kw at the wheels) averages 6.5s! even before charging it was way faster than a friends 323sedan.
wrt to a kompressor/supercharger.. its the opposite of a turbo. you dont have to keep the revs high, power starts from low down.
same friends 323 and my C240 are both rated at 125kw but the MB is too heavy and the gearing is too long. its no contest. I cannot race anything with my C240 from a standing start. period.. well maybe entry level 1300 or 1400cc hatches.

Highways in Portugal are not like in US ones, too much trafic and only two lanes and many turns... and its ilegal passing trough the rigth don't forget that
Many speed operations beeing done by the cops, hidden radars mounted by the road, and a huge police force to cut off the highway to put an hand on speeders!!! or some prodrive equiped subarus (+350Hp), BMW 330D (yes a diesel one with +-250Hp, stock 204hp), audi A4 1.8T (+240Hp) and now some new skodas octavias RS diesel and petrol (+-200hp and 240Hp) not to talk about the old 1.6L nissans with 180Hp
all disguised as civilian cars and watching us... try to race to this ones
I have a friend that was caugth by a radar last year with a CL220CDI at 212km/h by a mentioned audi A4 above, this year with his BMW 335D coupe
was caugth again at 212km/h and he swears that he was doing 260km/h and talking on hands free phone, thats why he didn't saw the radar
imediate fine of 500€
Now we know that mobile radars here only can see us till 212km/h
Ohhh well, I have mines too, now I'm driving like an old man, a fast one

Ohhhhh, you are going to be owned by many small cars, and many of them diesel, like the Seats, Vw and Audi TDIs, 1.9TDI with 130Hp and 170Hp, no weigth and a loooooottt of torque
and not to speak on the BMW 320D / 120D with 163Hp, no petrol cars here, only super sports ones like porsches, ferraris, etc... you will see a lot of BMW 530D/ 535D and MB E and C270CDI/E320CDI/CLS320CDI principally on the Highways...
Diesels, because petrol here costs +-4,5€ each US gallon (1,2€/L)

I raced an old lady in a walker with my s320 and won. so if my boat can do that im sure a c240 would be okay..then again i dont think she was really racing me, so it kinda makes me sad.

Puff puff give...puff puff give...you're f%%king up the rotation. Puff puff give!!!!
A 240 isn't smoking anything at any speed! 230s (well at the the v6 models) kinda bog in 2nd gear no matter what you do but anything over about 45 it does quite nicely. And when you are over 70 it pretty much hauls ***. Well at least the 6 speed m/t models do.
